Same. Again, the .40 snap that everyone talks about it so overrated. This wasn't a discussion back in the day.

all jokes aside, expansion does present a deference. Again, I don't mind a larger wound cavity. Every bit helps.

It's just economics. An FBI Agent issued a Glock 19M (9mm) will likely retire with that weapon in 20 years or so. An FBI Agent issued a Glock 22/23 in 40 will likely be issued at least one or more replacement pistols in his/her career.

Also, what is that cost difference in 9mm vs 40 for a box of service ammo. (x)

Three boxes of ammo per qualification.
    Four qualifications per year.
    Twenty year career.

    13,000 Agents

Do that math and you see why it is an easy choice.

    That being said...

I just picked up a Glock 23, Gen 4 (Blue Label) and just ordered an OEM (Glock 32 (357 Sig)) barrel....

So what do I know about cost effective bullet purchases...

NATO compliant, cheaper ammo means more practicing, and more "metro" guys and ladies in the departments, than in years past.
Brazil doesn't have that issue. They're not complaining about "too snappy".

For sure the ammo cost dwarfs the pistol cost over the life of a pistol.

And yes, I did the same as you. Just bought a LE (unissued trade in) 23 Gen4, 357sig barrel, 357 mags and 357 trigger assembly. The slide comes back today from Jagerwerks with a Trijicon SRO.

Good point, but when has government really been concerned about costs/spending unless the people demand it?

If the agent was actually a shooter, I can see that, but in reality, most will only go to the range for their qualification.

the gov always spends the minimum on the things they really need to spend on unless there is some benefit to the swamp. in that case they spend like crazy to benefit themselves.

A neighboring agency just traded in .40 229s for Gen 5 G17s and the ammo savings alone paid for the transition and is how they justified it. Not every government entity has unlimited funds. Especially if saving money in one area allows them to spend (or waste) it in another.

Which is still thousands of rounds over a career. Enough for things to start breaking.

Well...The US Park Police aren't issued the HK P7M13 anymore...

    (So there's that.)

I would have loved to have seen the justification memo on that purchase. lol.

All those figures are for that "I only shoot four times a year" Agent. If there is a $15 difference in the cost of a box of service ammo....

    $50,000,000

When an agency decides they simply must have something, the justification memo is simply a means to that end. In the realm of firearms and ammunition, they are the ballistic equivalent of election year junk mail.

No way in hell is the FBI going to leave issued pistols in service for 20 years.

No. That would apply more to the people shooting a smaller caliber to avoid the snappiness, actually.
