A lot of other manufacturers have custom shops. What is wrong with Glock having one?

Back in the revolver day we were running 12 pound of more double action only trigger pulls. If you were lucky you had a 9 or 10 pound that was slicked up and we shot fine. But folks now are possessed about making a 5 pound trigger pull something it was never ment to be.

If someone wants a true custom gun instead of dumping $$$ in a striker just get a Staccato, Wilson Les Baer or etc.
+1 except my Glock 19 and 26 are equipped with the awesome NY2 which gives a 12.5# revolver like pull. The department learned though, the new folks get the standard 5.5# trigger. No revolver transitions here anymore, although mine sits in my locker waiting to see sunlight again.

there are some seasoned revolver guys that swear by the NY trigger. (I believe the 5 pound causes a lot of folks to let the trigger outrun their sights but some will disagree)

However with the new Gen 5 not really an option that I know of

IMHO, if Glock were to start a "custom shop" program I think it would be along the lines of assembling stock parts to make a handgun that isn't a current stock item.

I.E. -

- a long slide 26 or 19 using either a 17 or 34 slide and barrel, in what ever colors are currently available, with all the major components having the same serial number.

OR.....

- a 26X using either a 19 or 17 frame, in what ever colors are currently available, with all the major components having the same serial number.

OR.....

- a multi barrel set in any currently available stock handgun or "custom" configured as above, with all the major components having the same serial number. for this to happen, Glock would have to start producing a 40 to 9mm conversion barrel, which I think they could sell out right.

basically, Glock would be taking advantage of what is currently being done with aftermarket manufacturer parts, but would bring it in house, stamp it with the Glock logo and make a boat load of money.

If given the option to go to a stock trigger on my service/off duty pistols, I will keep them with the NY2. My finger and mindset are pretty much on that set up.

The department just recently (within the past 5 years or so) approved the gen4 pistols. I doubt the gen 5 are anywhere close to being approved.

I just heard the range qualifications are going to drop to 25 rounds in 2024. I say make it 1 round at an unknown distance target for the better shooters. Roll up and hit a 12 inch plate between 15-25 yards you are qualified and go on your way (with 1 more round as a second chance, so it can be 1 and done, with one second chance.)

Because Glock is a duty pistol company. That’s what they were founded to sell and that is what has been their core purpose since inception. Glock as a firearms company was created with the purpose of selling and making duty pistols for military and law enforcement agencies. A custom shop does not factor into that original purpose. Glock has offered ported slides and barrels, different sights, different grip frame textures, different slide serrations, different light rails and different mag releases. But all in the context of full filling agency contracts mainly.

The real answer is it is much too late for Glock to have a custom shop. The huge Glock after market has already smothered this custom market ( Wilson custom combat, Johnny Glock, Apex, Glock triggers, Lenny Magill, Taran, etc etc etc etc). There is a huge amount of money to be made there that is being made; and there is little room for more to be made. There is little foothold for Glock and nothing that Glock can do that already has not been done by someone else, who does it better. So all Glock has left is to produce the current pistol which Glock does best. End of story.

Glock is interested only in their block design from the beginning. Innovation since then has been pretty minimal. Custom and improvement has been left to the aftermarket industry.

I would say your 1 shot example wis a good “drill” IF you can do it on demand every time! I spent time on a SWAT team for a Federal Agency and that is similar to a stress test we did. We ran for a couple hundred yards up and over some I stocked with all tac gear and make our shot with 1 round.

Folks really do need to put more rounds down range than that. Local departments here have been doing the Bakersfield Qual as well as the state mandated stuff. The Bakersfield is a 10 round course from holster that has tight time and accuracy bar. Average nationwide hit % of LEO in gunfight is 20-30% Bakersfield Area PD that do that drill have an 85% hit rate.
