Why can't we delete posts or edit our titles?

What's the rationale for having things set up so we can't delete a post or edit our primary title?
For example...if we're selling something it would be nice to have the ability to edit the main title so it reflects lowered prices. And it would be nice to have the ability to delete a post. I'm just curious why these are prohibited.

Deleting posts comes in to play when you get a user that has been around for awhile, gets really pissed off, then decides to delete all of his posts, or a lot of them, to piss others off (yes, it has happened on many other forums). I would guess this is one of the reasons on this site, among others.

As for changing titles... I've never been on a well run forum that allows members to change their own titles after X minutes or seconds. My only reasoning being a former admin of a forum is that it makes it quite difficult to find topics that you've already looked at if people are changing their titles.
