Why aren't they showing the fights in Olympic Hockey?

I've been watching the games at my station and at home for the last few days. I'm watching Hockey now and whenever players look like they want to get into it, the camera quick cuts away and the announcers basically ignore what's happening as well...why are they doing this instead of showing and talking about it??

    Thanks!

My guess is because young people and family's watch. Probably not something EVERYONE wants their kids to see. They are olympians and they are "EXPECTED" to act accordingly.

This is the only olympic sport that they fight out of rage to my knowledge.

with that said, I would like to see the fights too!

Because in International (Olympic) Hockey fights are against the rules. They aren't glorified and tacitly approved as in American Hockey.

Therefore, they cut away and don't give them the satisfaction.

Same here!! You're only BSing the kid if you let them watch them trip, check, and stomp each other without it having consequences. IMO, that encourages them to be a poor sport. Plus you know very well that the kids are seeing the players latch on to each other to pick the fight...and then the camera quick shifts away. Now what 4+ year old isn't going to ask what's going on??

If this is true, then why dont they disqualify the players from further olympic play.

That would put an end to it for sure.

That explains why the refs are diving into the slightest bickering....the game would be over pretty quick due to a lack of players!!

Olympic hockey is a joke now. The day they allowed Nhl players to compete is the day I stopped caring. I remember back in like 94 and 98 when it was all amateurs. I think I heard that EVERY single player on team Canada is in the Nhl. What fun is that? It's not even about giving some guy a chance to represent his country, it's about which country has the best professional hockey players. Boring!

Isnt that what its all about? Which country has the best players?

So just because their in the NHL means they dont deserve to be in the olympics?

Same goes for olympic basketball, we had a lot of NBA players representing the usa.

I know I would want the best representing my country, pro or not.

Sure, Canada may kill everyone in hockey but imagine what it would be like if there was olympic football......

That would be fun to watch FO SHO!

The "Dream team" takes away the dream of an athlete who is not a pro but would love to represent his country. That's one of the things that made 1980 so special.

It was not all amateurs in 1994 and 1998. NHL allowed their players to compete starting in 1998 but of course European teams employed professionals prior to then.

Yeah, but you know what I mean. It's nothing close to what it was in the 90s now. It may be the best players in the world, but I'd rather see some up and coming 19 year old than an Nhl star who has been in the league for 12 years.

Every player on teams Canada, USA, and many players on several other teams.

The problem with your analysis is that Olympic hockey is greatness.

Do you really yearn for the days when every Soviet player was an officer in the Red Army?

Then you need to watch the World Junior Championships. The US just won the World Juniors in January.

Olympics are the best athletes in the world, not amatures.
