    Probably.

    My birthday is nearer to the 4th of July than that was to Christmas, but I don't think they are in any way related.

    Probably because they're not. However, two events honoring deities are rather more closely connected than your birth and the commemoration of the declaration of independence, wouldn't you agree?

    Not until you expand on how they are "similar" and in what ways that would necessarily imply a connection.

    Both are commemorations of deities, both involve gift giving, both involve singing in the streets, both involve feasting. The parallels aren't exactly controversial.
