That would be ridiculous, so I hope that is not the case.

I would imagine the back room deal to GIVE his wife the seat has been long negotiated , America if this goes down will suffer again because of a McCain !

I think the seat is going to be given to his wife. Sad, but true.

The governor will appoint his replacement, but there is some risk of a special election being called - though that's what would have happened if he stepped down or passed before May 30th.

The replacement would serve until the 2020 election.

Flake's seat is up this year and the Dems would love to be able to take 2 seats in AZ - though even taking Flake's seat is doubtful.

Lots of dead people will have to vote for that to happen.

Should have a special election even if the dems win......making backroom deals to give away his seat is BS......

The law is the law... the governor appoints a replacement if the seat is vacant after the 30th of May in any given year.

Of course the Dems will sue the state in federal court to try to block the appointment... The liberal, hand-picked judge who hears the case will rule for the Dems, and it will end up in the SCOTUS...

I have said in another thread. If Ducey appoints a McCain family member. He will lose my vote. Primary is next week. I have talked to a lot of people who feel this way.

The man paid dearly for our country, while serving in the Navy. I'll give it a few days out of respect for that alone. Maybe an idea of a replacement after that. Honor is in play here, and he earned it. Sad day for our country.

I would say Kyl makes sense from the Gov's point of view. HE could hold the seat until 2020 and then not run for re-election. He and the Gov are pretty close and that pick would also not send the base into orbit.
