That's my question. Thanks in advance for your answers! I will read and consider each one.
I've never liked the texture on the Gen4 frames and my 2012 Gen3 26 (SUE6**) has the frying-pan finish I haven't encountered on many Gen4s.
I no longer have it, but I bought the Gen 3 because of the grip texture. I didn't really care about the bigger mag release or the extra back straps, and if I recall correctly the subcompacts already had the dual RSA. See if your LGS/Range has one of each for you to try out. BTW, the only reason I have the Gen 4 21 is because it was cheaper than the Gen 3 21SF.
G26 Gen 4 Pros : grip texture , back straps.
G26 Gen 4 Cons : poor finish ; easily scratched.
I have a G26 gen 4 because I have large hands - (Gen 3's need not apply) ... I love mine !!
I find the trigger pull on the Gen 3 glocks slightly better. But I prefer the frame/grip on the gen 4 Glocks. When I buy new it is gen 4. But a good price on a gen 3 or gen 2 and I am buying.
My non- carry G26 Gen 4 is for (IDPA CCP class : $0.25 trigger job , reduced power plunger spring , #5 lb. striker spring , dot connector (stock on newer Gen 4's) gets me in the 4.0 lb. to 4.25 lb. range which is good for now . I have a #6 lb. trigger spring waiting on deck if I want to drop trigger pull further . *All springs from Wolff gun springs...
I prefer the gen 3 in any model. I'm just more used to it, I guess.
I like the texture on the 4 better, mag release too. D9nt care about the finish as I scratch mine to heck anyway, its inevitible.
The Gen 3 takes Talon grips better, but I prefer the thinner grip of the Gen 4.
If you plan to purchase a 26 and perform no modifications, the Gen3 will have a better tigger as the Gen4 has the nub on the connector that the Gen3 lacks. You can replace the connector or the Gen4 w/Gen3 connector or replace the trigger all together. The nub increases the trigger pull slightly and lacks the cleaner break of the Gen3. Otherwise, both guns are amazing. I'm running a Apex in both of my 26s and 27.
3 out of 5 are Gen3; My 26 is a Gen 3. As I recall, Gen 3's were very good builds with little to no issues. I prefer Gen 3 on my carry pistols.
I have a G26, Gen 4 and a G27, Gen 3 and don't have a preference.
