    Ok, I'm bored.

Flex wheeler is my all time favorite. I think he should've won the Olympia atleast once. He had the freaky size, but still had a small frame/waist/joints.

Bill Pearl is my favorite from back in the day. He just looked "right" to me. I'd like to have his size and shape. Not too big and certainly not small.

Currently I'd have to go with Darrem Charles. He doesn't have that freaky mass the judges are obsessed with and looks more symeterical and asthetically pleasing to the eye IMHO.

Others I liked were Vic Richards and Mike Mentzer.

About 5 years ago there was some younger European guy who was all the rage and supposed to the next big thing. I can't remember his name, but I have a pic of him doing side lateral raises with 80 lb dumbells. I think he had something like 23" arms too. I'll have to dig around and see if I can find his name. The kid was just massive! IIRC he did a few of the bigger contests and did poorly and vanished.

Sergio Oliva. I think he was better than Schwarzenegger; better back, shoulders and legs. He also had better overall definition. Joe Weider's politics and favoritism probably played a role in him not winning more Olympias. He was also a Chicago police officer.

California Jack, bet you never thought I could even name a single bodybuilder, huh?;f

ateamer---Well, I am a little surprised! But at least in isn't a current one.

As for my favorite, I'll pick Tommy Kono. While maybe not a body builder per se, he did win the Mr Universe title multiple times.

How's that ateamer? I didn't even have to know a bodybuilder to answer.

Tommy Kono is still a great one. America's greatest Olympic lifter ever.

I second that. Anyone else remember Franco on the Worlds Strongest Man?

    Yes I do.

The one I saw had Franco, Lou Ferrigno (sp?), and Ken Patera among others.

I remember they had this race with a refidgerator on their backs. Franco took off like a rocket and then I could swear he blew out a knee and his leg totally buckled and he went down. It looked like his leg bent the wrong way. But they never showed what happened. He defenitely got hurt, because he didn't finish.

    Anyone else see that race?

Absolutely brutal - it appeared to me his leg broke and folded in half. Oh man did that look painful. The only other world's strongest man moment that came close pain-wise for me was an arm wrestling event when someone's arm snapped. One of the Magnus' or something.

Yes! That's exactly what I saw too. But they never mentioned what happened and I've never talked to anyone who saw it too.

For years I've been wondering what happended.

Atleast 2 of us have seen it.;)

Franco didn't even seem bothered by it that much.

IIRC he dropped out of the comp and they never showed him again. Unless I missed it.

I was just reading a recent issue of Flex, and they mentioned that at the 1981 Mr Olympia (Franco came out of retirement) that his legs were much smaller as a result of a Strong Man injury years earlier. They didn't go into detail though.

I lost a lot of respect for him when I found out that he smokes.

Really? He smokes? Maybe if I smoked I could look like him and do 2000lb leg presses, too.;f On a more serious note, however, I am shocked that a man with his lifestyle would ever pick up a cigarette. If it is true then it is a shame.

Dexter Jackson and Darrem Charles, both of them workout at my gym. I saw Darrem Charles practicing his posing in the lockerroom about 2 weeks ago before the Arnold Classic, it was the most impressive thing ever.

I would've loved to see that!

I really admire Darrem's physique. He's not all bloated, and still has a small waist and joints. IIRC he was the winning-est bodybuilder of 2005. He took home quite a few titles except for the Olympia.

Yeah, nobody has a chance at the Olympia until Ronnie retires.

I saw Franco Columbo interviewed years after that race. He said the strap holding the fridge broke and it shifted throwing off his balance. I don't recal what he tore or broke, but it ended his carear. Sad, seemed like a nice guy. IIR, wasn't he the actual mason when he and arnold were business partners in a brick laying/stone mason business??

The "hardcore" bodybuilders are far from healthy. Their lifestyle is more a detriment than a benefit.
