I ran the KAC version for a while but went back to my cut down version of the KAC vfg, or the LaRue FUG in the stubby size.

yea the gear sector one is nice.. but pricey for what it is. I think i might stick with the Tango Down Stubby.

I like the Gear Sector one but there's another one that looks like a J-hook but it is pretty close to being a borderline VFG so I don't want to use it on an AR pistol unless the pistol has a 11.5" barrel.

I ran a 'normal' sized VFG then moved to a Gear Sector hand stop and moved to a MagPul RVG, cut down to hand stop size. At a carbine class, I found myself missing the handstop etc..so I bought a LaRue FUG and that's all she wrote.

Guess it's like Aimpoint or Eotech, it's what you prefer.

What do you guys consider the AFG? It's not a VFG and classified as such by ATF for use on pistol AR's but it's not really a handstop per se.

I bought one and haven't used it yet... still thinking about where to put it.

I only run 1 gun with a Tango Down stubby. I like it for what it is and it is on my primary 10.5" AR. It's different and you have to get used to it through training and not everyone will warm up to a vertical foregrip so just see if you like it and if not take it off and sell it.

I've used handstops, but I use a 7" tube and use a FUG in the middle length as a stop, I don't choke the chicken, i just pull back on it and with a 10:30 light, my thumb rests on the tailcap.

Tango Down Stubby. Because its small and easily removed.

Gear sector and KAC are the best hand stops IMHO currently but are on the pricey side considering they are so small. The Magpul XTAC handstop is set to release anytime now and is going to be much more affordable. I will be switching out my AFG for the new handstop.

My AFG functions as a handstop only anyways and weighs down the rifle. If I didnt want to resell it, I'd cut it down like Surf has his.

I have used and still use the following with good results:
    IWC hand stop
    Gear Sector hand stop
    Larue hand stop

I have tried and since stopped using:
    AFG
AFG2 (improvment but to make it work for me I would have to cut it up)
    TD stubby
KAC pistol grip and fer others that were similar

    My favorite to date:
RVG - cut it down to an 1.5" or so, sand the edges and use it as a hand stop. Just feels comfortable to me and it is cheap.

    YMMV

Could you post a pic of your RVG modification?
