Just wondering. What game and results. Guns and Calibers?
G22 w/Federal Arms drop in .357Sig barrel. All varmints up to and including bobcats. Load is a Sierra 90grn. HP @ 1600fps.
Jackrabbits/rockchucks just blow up. Bigger stuff drops dead with any decent torso hit.
G20- factory Win sivertips
I've shot a few deer(85-115 lbs), turkeys, tons of groundhogs, and a couple skunks and racoons.
Wow! Cool! Any pics?
I've hunted the last 5 years with a G20 10mm with OEM and 6" aftermarket bbl and it has taken 1 doe and about 16 or so hogs and 1 goat. I also hunted one hog with a borrow Desert Eagle 44mag about 7 years back and it worked great. Very expensive gun and quite heavy, but one very accurate gun with one of the best triggers that I ever pulled on a weapon.
I hunt with a semi-auto. It sits on my hip while the .44 mag wheelgun does the work ;a
Outside of small game I have not "hunted" with a handgun. I always have a handgun w/ my while hunting but it is more of a "bug". If I was going to hunt with a handgun it would be my 10mm Delta Elite. I susspect that I would do alright with it since about a year ago there was a thread here about a guy who shot a buffalo with a G20.
I would also not be afraid to hunt with my Sig P229 in .357Sig. However, the way the law is written in Montana it is not legal for me to use this particular cartridge for handgun hunting.
Seriously, I think a .45ACP or a 10mm would work fine. The key would be to get shots within 50 yards. That's pretty much my strategy with the .44 mag, too.
Here is the typical scenario:
Wait for a good broadside view on quiet walking deer at 30 yards, shoot one shot at the heart/lung area, watch deer run off, take note of where deer was and where deer is running to, wait 20 minutes before moving, walk to spot deer was hit, look for blood and hair, follow blood trail, find deer dead 80 yards away.
Don't be a dweeb shooting at a running deer, or at a deer 75 yards away.
Jackrabbits and coyotes is all I've shot with my g19. Well, that and an angry skunk, but that was self defense.
Here are a couple hen turkeys shot in the fall season. I shot the one on the right at about 25 yards. My brother shot the one on the left also using my G20 at 47 yards an hour later. Both ranges were found with a bushnell yardage pro scout. Loads were win. Silvertips.
Fall 10mm turkeys
Also, here are a couple deer from the fall. The 7 pointer was shot with a 6.5x55, but the spike on the left was with the Glock. Also Silvertips, about 40 yards.
Me too - KKM hunting barrel
Small game using .22 autos. It's illegal to hunt deer with an auto in IL.
I know a guy who used to use his G20 10mm on wild pigs and coyotes with great success, but then his wife bought him a Raging Bull .454 Casull Taurus DA revolver for Christmas, so it became his backup gun.
glock 29, couple of squirrls, a couple of dogs, and two bear.
BIG bear, 1 died nearly on the spot, the second was a finisher after he'd taken a 375 ICL to the upper lungs.
