It seems like every year, fewer cars, even performance cars, are produced with manual transmissions and fewer people I meet have ever even driven a stick.

How many currently drive a vehicle with a manual transmission?

Who here have never owned a car with a manual transmission?

How many people here have never driven a car with a manual transmission?

I'll never understand people getting sports cars/performance cars with automatic transmissions. I don't care how good auto transmissions get, they still disconnect you from the true driving experience, IMO.

I 'drive' a sequential manual, but it's a toe shifter...

Are any mainstream (not performance) vehicles even available in manual anymore?

One time back in the early 90's, my friend let me practice, and I drove his pos dodge colt 1 time around the block (0.4 miles).
That is the only time in my entire life that I have even attempted a manual transmission. If I can help it, I will never touch one the rest of my life as well.

My 3/4 ton truck is a manual, as are two of our three cars.

    I have a 2004 Nissan Frontier that is a 5 speed.

Learned to drive in a Chevrolet C10 3 on the tree and a Subaru 5 speed.

When stationed in Japan I had a 5 speed on the tree, left side of column.

Both of my former GTOs ('04 and '06) were 6-speeds. My old '79 T/A was a 4-speed. For those vehicles I would not have wanted an auto tranny.

    100%.

So much so that I rather slip the clutch in traffic than press the brake.

I was, and pretty much had been exclusively since I turned 16, until 4 years ago. My last one was a VW GTI. Now driving an Audi that let's me 'manual shift' if I want to, but I don't see much point without the clutch. There's no 'feel.'

I did until I sold my 97 ranger last month. We don't have a vehicle with a stick now.

I've owned two fast cars with paddle shifters and put quite a few miles on two others with auto/paddle shifters. I absolutely hate the damned things. To me, the experience feels no different than manually shifting up from Low, through Slow to drive in an auto trans-equipped car, when I was a kid.

My G37S had an auto with a paddle shifter. I supercharged it. Having that much power with that auto absolutely sucked. I could hit the paddle to upshift as I launched and the engine would still redline before the car could shift into second gear. That was a miserable experience. If the car had been equipped with a manual transmission, I suspect it would have ended up being one of my favorite cars I ever owned. Fast cars need manual transmissions.

The ol lady flies around on a stick when the moon is out. Other than that, we both can drive either manual or auto. Can't even buy a decent pickup truck with a stick anymore.

I learned on a stick.....drove a stick for over 25 years. Was over it...wanted nothing more to do with it. OK...I'll admit it here and now...both my Mustang and Camaro are automatics....couldn't be happier. Not only that...they are BOTH V6s.
My Camaro has paddle shifters...used them I think once in 3 years

I had always owned standards up until like six years ago, I think the last one was my Accord or my Nissan Frontier. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one next week and I think it's very sad that they are really almost done. Many high end sports cars only have maybe one or two models that you can even have the option of ordering a standard.
