Looking for a tactical light for under a $100 or so.
Is the streamlight m3 good? Is it better to spend more and go with LED?
    thanks

LED vs incandescant is not really a big issue. How often are you going to use your WML? I flash mine a few times a month for less than a second or two just to verify it works. I prefer incandescant light for tac light usage.

My 870P has a Surefire foreend on it that is incandescant. My P220 has a TLR-1 LED on it.

I have been happy with both. When I bought the Surefire shotgun foreend they were not offering the LED versions.

I would recommend stepping up to the TLR-1. The M3 just seems cheap to me. For $30 bucks I would step up. The TLR-1 is tough as nails. The SWAT team at my dept has issued the TLR-1's for years and they hold up to duty use no problem. It would last 25+ years as a HD weapon light.

LED would be the way to go. You will have longer battery life and the light element is not as fragile. TLR-1 seams like the light for you. If you can spend a little more, look into the Insight Technologies, I have a Procyon 150 and it is very good light. If you want to get the best, hands down SureFire X300.

Need you guys to dumb it down for me. I check online and there are about 20 versions of every light out there. TLR-1 had multiple item numbers. Any links or specific model / brands would be appreciated. Thanks
Edit: I mistakenly thought this was a thread about rail mounted tac lights. Any suggestion on those?

You definitely want a LED. Much more shock resistant and longer run time. If you mean weapon mounted, the TLR1 is a good choice. For hand held, a 6P or G2X.

    thanks

I like my Surefire 6P and 6P LED, but I have my eye on the Streamlight TLR1, TLR4 and Pro Tac 1 too.

i just got an insight WL1-AA light. its a bit more at $150 but uses AA batteries and is an LED with a strobe feature.

for handhelds, i prefer the Greg McGee Engineering C3-907. its brighter than my surefire 6P and uses 1 AA battery. and it only cost $25.this is my EDC light, one in my pocket, one in my truck and another in my 72hr kit.

after i quit getting the CR123s from the military and had to pay for them, i wanted AAs again. with todays technology, there really is no reason not to use the cheaper, more readily available batteries and get at least the same performance.

TLR-1s, I think this is the best around $100 tac light, good light with strobe and good value

I prefer LED, but the M3 is a pretty good buy. I had one for awhile and it was very durable and preformed as expected. As some of the other members have mentioned, the TLR-1 would be the better investment of the two if you can raise your budget a little.
