KTM 950 Supermoto (now in USA) or Buell Ulysses XB12X?

    or

(I don't buy into the ulysses being a dual sport bike. I own a Kawasaki KLR 650 and THAT'S a dual sport... NOBODY is gonna put knobbies on a Buell so, it's a valid competitor with the KTM I think.

KTM is real supermoto. Buell is a pretender.

Of those two, I'd pick the KTM without hesitation.

Based on my experience with the KTM 950 Adventure, the 950 SM is lighter and has about the same oomph plus retuned suspension for the street, I'll take the KTM.

But frankly neither of them are truly hooligan bikes. They don't have enough oomph.

They don't have enought oomph? What (in a stricktly hooligan bike) would you consider enough oomph? I sat on a BMW K1200R and it REALLY didn't feel good under me and Kawasaki discontinued their ZRX 1200 R.

The ZRX1200R is bulletproof and a TRUE Hooligan bike. However, roll-on and freeway wheelies tend to generate a lot of attention. I know. ;)

I have riden a few KTM's and I like them, but they are making their bikes downright nasty (JMO) looking with all of the odd angles. The Buell is not what it is dressed up to be, but if you keep it totally on the street it looks like fun. I think I would have to tip my hat towards the KTM if only the two were valid choices.

I am too big for any of the 450cc bikes anymore, so I tend to look for the larger bore machines. My friend built a "hooligan" machine based on an XR650R...that thing rocks with the SM setup. Wheelies without effort and handles like it's on rails. Hard to get the conversions into California anymore, but in your state it might work out. The other problem is the racing engine requires more attention...but it is fun to ride!

What would I consider to be true hooligan bikes?

The ZRX, the Speed Triple, the Monster S4R, the Tuono, the SV1000 (not SV1000S), the new FZ1. Something that is fairly light and definitely has more than 100-HP at the rear wheel.

The KTM 950SM would be super bad with another 20-horses. But then it would be in direct competition with the upcoming KTM Super Duke.

"Hooligan" bikes do not come with bodywork.
