My 6 year old Dell Insprion 8200 is acting up....again. The power switch is getting harder and harder to function. It will not turn on sometimes.

I'm thinking of getting a replacement. What inexpensive brand/model should I get?

I only use it for surfing the net, mostly gun sites, e-mail, and storing photos downloaded from my point and shoot camera. I don't use it for business, I don't play games, and I don't even use it for personal business.

I do need a wireless connection because I am usually in my recliner, in the family room, watching TV, when I'm surfing. (It's nice to be retired.)

Please note that I said inexpensive. I'd rather spend money on guns and ammo than on these "devil's devices".

    Thanks for your time.

I recommend Acer laptops. They are the best bang for the buck. I recommend getting a real processor (Turin, Pentium M, etc.), at least 512MB of ram with 1GB recommended, a decent size HD like 60GB or more, and a DVD burner.

    Here are a few examples:

Now if you really want to save some money here are some that will work for you:

Fry's www.outpost.com usually has really cheap laptops, like $500 laptops.

Truthfully... cheap laptops as a rule, suck. Hard.

The solution I've been using lately is lease return high end laptops.

    Like these.

You can get what was a $1500 laptop for $400. Something from the Latitude D series should be fine. I've had to deal with 12 or 13 of these in the last 2 years or so and have found them to be reliable and durable.

Thanks to all of you for the info. The gremlins in this devil's device apparently saw my post and decided to stop playing games. It's been working fine lately.

I'm just going to wait until this one dies.
