I have a Galco paddle leather holster with a thumbbreak. It leaves tanning oils or something on the corners/edges of the slide after carrying with it. I wipe this stuff off with a silicone cloth at the end of the day. I realize that eventually this will lead to holster wear. I am OK with some honest wear, but I also don't mind minimizing the amount of holster wear. Anyone have any pics or information as to what these chemicals do to a Glock finish? I also have a Fobus Evolution paddle polymer holster. The only wear that it makes on the gun is some friction marks on the trigger guard where it uses pressure to retain the pistol. I am wondering if I would be better off using the Fobus because it won't affect the gun's finish like the leather. Any pics of pistols showing some holster wear from polymer holsters? Like I said, I don't mind some holster wear. The gun is a SD tool, and not a safe queen. I would like to, however, minimize the wear just a bit. Which holster should I use with that in mind? Thanks.

Holster choices are a personal thing, I prefer OWB either leather or kydex is fine with me. I use a Galco Cop Series with the thumb break cut off, or a Double Phalanx from Shielded Holsters when I wanna carry IWB. Leather and kydex will both cause holster wear, they just wear differently. You can obsess about it, or just roll with it like I do. After all, its a less than $500 service grade weapon.

Here is my 14 year old G23 complete with holster wear from various leather and kydex holsters. I kinda like it, gives it character. Theres the saying, "This is my Glock, there are many like it, but this one is mine."

Funny. I've just recently read this problem on Galco on another forum. 1911.org or pistolsmiths.com or something. It was a guy with black leather that bled out on his clothes when he sweated on it @ an IDPA match. Galco told him the cure was to NOT USE THIS HOLSTER in a match. WTF?!?! I mean, he coulda been making it up, but I doubt it. Why would he? I told him I remember having a black Galco or two fade on me, but not bleed on my clothes. I used shoe polish to re-blacken em. Problem solved. I've since gone to brown or natural leather from them, but for aesthetics more than anything else. I love Galco and always have. I wonder if they recently changed the dye formulae or something. Who knows?

I use a mtac iwb which is a hybrid holster brown leather back/kydex front. The leather is against your body and protects the gun from sweat while the kydex is against your pants which helps protect your weapon if you bang into stuff with it. I have been using this holster for about 2 months and have not noticed any wear on my weapon or die from the holster.

Sidearmor IWB for me. I also use a SA OWB for cold weather.
Good support from the manufacture too! Holster has a sweat guard that protects my weapon during the hot summer months.

I have three carry setups that I use for two guns. This is after years of trial and error. I'm very sensitive to the weight and this is what works best for me.

- I carry the Glock 23 in an OWB Galco holster with no thumb break. I use this setup in colder weather when a sweatshirt or jacket will cover the gun completely. I never carry the Glock under a t-shirt or button up just because I'm worried about it printing. This is the most comfortable carry for me.

- I carry the S&W Airweight in a standard pocket holster in my pants pocket in hotter weather. If I have to wear pants with goofy pockets that don't work well with the pocket holster, I use a Cross Breed "Supertuck" IWB holster. It's VERY nice but I just rather have the wallet-sized pistol in my pocket if possible.

- No matter what I always wear the Crossbreed belt. It's very sturdy and stiff. A good belt makes a ton of difference in comfort. Even with the S&W in my pants pocket I still wear the belt too.
