OK here goes...I'm thinking about a 1911 for one reason only (I know there are many, many more). A 1911 is like a Harley Davidson to me, you can decorate it, customize it and personlaize it like no other. Now, which one do i want??? I'm thinking Colt or Springfield. I have no idea which is the one to buy. I don't want no junk, that's for sure (I would rather not have to send it to a Gunsmith to get it fine tuned). I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance for you help.

I am sorry, but my 1911 is nothing like my Harley-Davidson... My 1911 has never left me stranded on the side of the road in the rain, it has never caught fire and it was the friend that stood faithfully next to mee through all of these experiences.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

I know what you meant, I just had to.

I got a great deal on my Kimber Custom Classic (it's one of the older ones). I have over 87,000 rounds through my Kimber and it still shoots great.

Well... my Harley never set me on fire or left me stranded. It has been and is a joy to own and ride.

Likewise, my Colt Combat Elite has served me well. It is a weapon not a work of art. It will put holes where I want them when I want them.

    I vote for Colt!

Try a Colt XSE Lightweight Government Model.

Combines the balance and sight length of a Govt Model with the carry convenience of a LWT Commander.

My Springfield Loaded has been flawless for a few thousands rounds to date right out the box (which I will add is plastic and not cardboard)

Kimber Pro Carry II. I love mine and it was my first 1911. No gunsmithing needed. It's perfect for me right out of the box.

I have had a few problems with Kimbers.

Doesn't there warranty last one year, and then there CS stinks?

SA sets the bar for CS from what I understand. Never needed to use it.

Try a STI Trojan or SA Loaded.

If its between SA and Colt, I would go SA. They seem to be on a roll lately. Productioin guns that are as tight and accurate as SOME semi-custom guns.

You can find used Loadeds for 6 - 700 on the classifieds.

    Great starter gun.

There are better guns for the money than Colt.

Go springfield. If you are going to end up making changes, their customer service and custom shop is excellent. You should also change the name of this post to "What will be my first 1911?" They have a tendency to multiply.

Thanks for all the help. Now, I'm as confused and undecided as I ever was. Price is not as important as quality. I'm not looking for a starter 1911, I'm looking for the good stuff. I don't mind paying for the name brand (Colt), if the name brand is the way to go. I am leaning towards the Colt or Springfield, just as I was when I first made this post. If anyone has information or expierence that will put me over the edge either way, please let me know. You guys are great and once again, I thank you for your help.
