Which 10mm?

2724 Views 79 Replies 45 Participants Last post by  MarkCO
I‘ve decided my next pistol will be 10mm. Up until tonight I was firmly set on the Glock G20. However I thought I might need to consider some other brands. After looking at info on different models it is now between the G20 and the Springfield Armory XDm Elite. I will have to buy either from Sportsmen Warehouse and the local store has the SA and the G20 in stock. The SA Elite is black/OD green which I really like. I know I can’t go wrong with the Glock and have read many threads on here about the G20. Also the G20 will be a Gen 4. I have a Gen 4 G21 and really like the looks and feel of the Gen 4. Plus I haven’t decided if I need MOS. The SA has the option for a RDS so I’m covered if I do decide to add one. I just haven’t read a lot on the SA and need some info on them. I am kind of familiar with the feel of the SA as I had one of their early XD .45s. I remember liking the feel of the gun. What is the reliability like with these in 10mm? Any concerns I should know about? Thanks in advance for your help.

Any Glock 10mm would be my choice. 29, 20, or 40.

Well I went to Sportsman’s Warehouse today to look at the SA but I didn’t see it on the wall. The one sales person was busy with a couple that was determined to see every gun hanging on the wall so I didn’t get a chance to ask if they had it somewhere else or I was just over looking it. Either way I didn’t get to hold it. So I just have to keep researching it and make my decision.
I have a G20 Gen 3 with a Houge grip, and its the only thing I would have as far as 10mm goes.

Seek out a SW1006, It will handle any hot 10 mm loads unlike the striker fired plastic fakers.

Have you thought of getting a 10mm conversion barrel for your G21? I have read that they work with G21 mags and it would be an inexpensive entry into 10mm.

I just got a Gen5 G20, but haven't made it to the range yet, although I really like the way it feels in my LH.

Nice collection. But you are assuming wrong if you think everyone will recognize from photo & know which 10 mms you like.

Even zooming in I could not identify them. But I am interested in which you like and what sets them apart from other 10 mms.🙂

Thanks!

No I want a dedicated 10mm. I want to have both. Congrats on the Gen 5. How much are they going for and where did you buy it? I’m probably gonna go for the Gen 4 so it‘ll match my G21 if I decide on the Glock.

I'm fairly new to the wonderful world of the 10mm. I have a Rock Island Tac II in 10mm and most recently I picked up the M&P 10mm. I have a little over 300 rounds through the RIA with zero issues. I love 1911's and the RIA shoots like a dream. The Smith only has 50 rounds through it at the moment, but I've had no issues related to the gun. The only issue that I had was that I accidentally bumped the mag release once. A quick tap and rack and we were back in business. I adjusted my grip and had no further issues. Personally, the ergonomics of the M&P are better than the Glock or Springfield.

I bought my first Glock over 30 years ago (still have that one) and have owned probably fifteen of them over the years. Last spring I bought a Springfield XD-M Elite with a 3.8" barrel and I have to say I really like it. It's accurate, has a great trigger (beats any Glock trigger I've ever shot - stock or modified), has a grip safety which I like (some people hate 'em), and so far it has shot everything I've tried in it including 40 S&W loads. I plan on making it my EDC during the springtime when the bears wake up and are hungry. They can be a problem up here in Alaska.
My Glock 10mm's don't get carried anymore but I can't bring myself to sell them.

If/when I get one it will probably be a P220.

You shouldn't buy based on the ol' Gun Store Fondle.
It may feel good in your hand but you may shoot it like crap.
Try to find someone in your area that has one and will let you try it before you buy.
Or see if there is a local range that rents guns.

I have a Glock G20.4, Tangfoglio Stock III and a Sig X-Ten.
Lots of rounds through the G20, very accurate and easy to shoot.
The Tanfo is a steel framed beast....love that gun.
The X-Ten is new. I'm a big P320 fan and this is a great pistol.....feels almost like a 9mm frame.

Not a fan of the looks of M&P or XD so I'll probably never own either of those.
Everyone has their favorites.

I see the same thing. Not my guns either so I would be just as wrong 😑.

I’ve already checked around with the local ranges it’s a no go on renting one. That’s why I’m leaning towards the Glock it shouldn’t be much different than my G21. But I really like the looks of the SA and I’ve owned an early XD .45 that I carried on SWAT and I really liked that pistol. It was OD green also so it has a little nostalgia for me.

I own a bunch of 10mm pistols, from a S&W 610 to a DW Kodiak and lots in between.

For my money, the Glock 20 is still the best all around 10mm pistol out here, though I carry a 29 (it’s Florida, what can I say?)

The XDM3.8 sat strangely in my hand, the bore axis was too high and it rocked a little too much under recoil. And it’s not just Glock familiarity; my 1076 doesn’t feel that unstable despite a similarly high bore axis. Heck, my 610 feels great to me firing heavy 10mm magnum loads. 190 Gr SJHP at almost 1600 FPS.

If you're familiar with G21, then G20 will feel like an old friend.
You'll just have to decide whether it will be G20.4 or G20.5
I shoot mine outdoors and for sights, I have a red fiber optic front (.040) and Dawson competition rear (plain black serrated).

Another satisfied G29 dude here. To me, it’s a 10mm G19, which is just right in my book (I don’t hunt). If you like classics, the aforementioned 1006 is the bee’s knees.

After several days of back and forth I’ve decided to go with the Glock G20. I’m familiar with the platform and really love the Gen 4 looks and feel. I still may purchase the SA XD down the road as I really like the looks of it. But for now I’m sticking with Glock. I’ve read too many good reviews of the G20 to pass it up. The G21 with the large beavertail backstrap fits my hand perfect so I’m sure the G20 will be the same. Plus I already have a holster and mag pouches for the G21/G20. Also I like the fact that the Glock comes with 3 mags.

I started getting the updated G20 Gen 5 in. Another good option now is the Sig P320 XTen.

It will be once they iron out their mag problem.
