I installed Norton Personal Firewall on my MS box tonight and it immediately shut down all IP traffic. It would not allow me to configure it as I was told I did not have permission to do so by the config utility.

And then Norton Clean Sweep and MS program remover would not allow me to remove it!

I installed Norton Utilities last night and used their "Go Back" program to rescue the system.

Tomorrow's mission: The Norton FW CD will be tacked up at 100 yards and will be thoroughly abused by my 338. Any remains will be torched.

This is the first Norton product I've had trouble with and a Norton utility did save my bacon so to speak, but I'll steer clear of their Firewall s/w thank you.

The truly sad thing is that Norton's GoBack did nothing that XP's System Restore couldn't have done better.

Were that my Norton disk, there would be TWO targets.

The only Symantec applications that do not suck moose nozzle are contained on copies of System Works prior to 2003.

The newer ones suck as badly as NAV does, IMHO.

Glad you got through the infestation; even gladder to hear that there will not be a recurrence!!

I'm running MS's infamous "ME" on this box. I know, it's crap and I should update to XP, but I harbor such a deep and abiding hatred, ABSOLUTE HATRED, of all things Microsoft, I am loathe to give Bill Gates anymore of my hard earned money just so I can own another version of a 2nd rate OS.

I know XP is better, but I don't think that means it's a good OS.

Gimme UNIX/Linux/BSD any day of the week.
