Sandy Hook N.J. -- Comm center sitting radio watch, worked mostly SAR cases. Duty was 2 on 2 off every other weekend a 72. With 6 months to go they wanted to transfer me to a buoy tender out of N.Y. - C.O. blocked it and let me finish my tour at Sandy Hook. :tongueout:

I had the greatest job in the Coast Guard in Miami. Now I'm on my staff tour and I have discovered I have no taste for the life of a staff officer.

I transferred from Sector Miami to the D8 Headquarters in New Orleans.

D7 is still located in Miami as well.

Not stationed out of anywhere, but I'm an Auxiliarist out of Flotilla 07-05, Mamaroneck, NY. Very lucky to be working with the active guys in ASCC, SecNY, StaBTV, and SecLIS/LISS.

Thanks, Burien. I was never able to serve in the active military due to my eyesight, but was lucky to stumble upon the AUX. I've always wanted to give back to the community and country, so this was the best way that I could.

I have more respect for the active/retired guys than anyone can imagine - it's an honor to help.

Remember it was the CG AUX that went out looking for German U-boats in wooden sail boats during WWII. They were unpaid civies doing their part. It took big stones going out to find one of the most powerful weapons of the time in a 4 knot wooden boat.

Hats off to them. IMHO it is not how you served, it is that you served.

Question: Is the CG training base in Sonoma County, CA, just southwest of Petaluma still active? I worked near there in 91.

No I am not CG but one of my first cousins is a Commander and on the Captain's list. He will have 20 years active this year.

    Personally, I am former LEO.
