Difficult question for some.. Super easy for others.. I'm curious because when I ask myself the question.. I can't answer it.. If pressed to come up with an answer, I guess I could say seeing my children succeed in life. Or, having things work out as I planned. But, truly, I struggle to pin down exactly what it is that brings me happiness.. Maybe happiness is not a necessity for life? I hope that's not correct. I'd like to think that we are not here just to work and survive. There has to be a larger reason, or purpose. I think it starts with happiness.

So, where do you find your happiness? What puts a smile across your face that is hard to wipe off? What happiness do you look forward to that allows you to roll over and put your feet on the floor in the morning? However you want to phrase the question, I'm interested in the answer.

In a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Guaranteed. And I don't mean religion.

Ordell... Maybe I should have said LONG TERM, HEALTHY, happiness! Ha ha ha! The strip club *might* bring short term happiness, but it will flat out bomb your life in other ways.. At least that's what a friend told me..

Finding peace within yourself is an essential step. That involves some acceptance, some reconciliation. This is a foundation for happiness (not happiness itself).
I find that smile usually when I've helped somebody with a hand-up. Particularly when helping wasn't easy, but the right thing to do.

Pleasure comes from the outside and will never be enough (see unhappy millionaires):
Wine, women, and song (old school)
Sex, drugs, and rock & roll (updated, means same thing)

True happiness (or contentment) comes from within when you find out who you are and why you were born.

    Who are you?
Answer the question without using your name, gender, nationality, ethnicity, profession, marital status, parental status, likes and dislikes (cars, guns, foods, sports teams, hobbies, etc.)
Strip away all those irrelevancies and the real you is revealed.

No, I'm not on anything. No need for an intervention :highfive:

I love playing my Fender Precision. My hands are jacked up, and I struggle, but it really makes me happy.

The only person on the planet that can make you happy, truly happy, is you.

Your offspring, spouse, family, faith, and close friends are deeply important, but only you can make you happy.

    Godspeed my friend.

A man once said that money can't buy happiness. A study was done, and it turns out that money can buy experiences. Experiences leads to happiness. You don't need money for experiences, but it makes it easier.
I find my happiness in the pages of books, visiting new worlds and old friends; I find it in learning new things; I find it in making and fixing things (In the words of Red Green, if women don't find you handsome they should at least find you handy. I'm as handy as they come).

My wife and I have run two LLC's since 1993 and moved both cross country from NYC's West Side to southern Montana a year later. Since then, we've spent twenty-five hours a day together making it work and our efforts have been rewarded in multiples of well. Living with the world's most beautiful EVP/CFO makes things warm and tingly for me. HH

I’ve pondered this question myself at times. It’s difficult to answer for myself, let alone anyone else. Although, I do think there are pillars of happiness that are often common between many people.

Love - to love others and to be loved. Is there anything more important?

Health - The body and mind must be strong and balanced.

Accomplishment - This can take many forms; professional success, personal success, even something as simple as completing a chore. I think we’re hard wired to make ourselves useful, to ourselves or others, but useful.

Stability - A place to rest your head and a full stomach are essential. They don’t have to be extravagant, but try being happy without them.

However, I have to acknowledge that I have been exceedingly blessed. Some people experience things, through no fault of their own, and I have no answer on how they can be happy after such things.

For some us, it’s not healthy to think too deeply about the nature of this world. I simply have to remember the life I have lived has been worth it.
