When's the last time you use a pay-phone in a phone booth?

The kind that have the doors so you can close yourself in? I realized the other day that I can't remember the last time I'd even seen one. Do they still exist, or have cell phones effectively killed them off? I know, I wonder about weird stuff sometimes...

I can remember seeing rows of them in airports years ago. People just arriving on flights would dash for them to make calls. That's just another blast from the past now.

The only people I see using pay phones are people who are cheating on their wife/husband. It is all too obvious. A guy pulls up in a suit and a BMW and uses a pay phone. You know he has at least one cell phone on him. He just doesn't want his wife to know who he is calling.

When I see people using a pay phone I always yell at them. I will yell, "Your wife knows you are cheating!" or "You should be ashamed of yourself!" or "Think of your children!"
    LOL!

I tried to use a pay phone just yesterday. No booth though. I've got a dead beat customer who wrote me a bad check and will not answer the phone when the ***** see's my name on his caller ID. Damn I hate caller ID. So I find a pay phone, get out of my truck, pick up the receiver and look at it before placing it against my ear and low and behold some other dead beat loser had hocked a loogie (sp?) that looked like said loser had been chewing peanut butter cookies. I just had to laugh at the whole crazy mess caused by some jerk in a big fancy house, nice fancy cars with his kids in some nice fancy private school who won't make good on a $400.00 check. Now I know times are tough for some well meaning folks out there, but this guy is a class "A" POS. I hope he does us both a huge favor and pays up. I bet he's got an OBAMA '08 bumper sticker on the fender of that fancy car.

I think the last time I saw one with a booth was in England. I think that was about 98-99.

Nowadays when I do see a pay phone its not one of the ones in the booth.

1994. Wow, have times changed since then. I was in Montana and tried to call back home to Georgia. This was before cell phones were in common usage. The worst part is, the operator could not connect me to Georgia. She tried and tried but could not ever get me connected.

Probably be in the late '90s in a locale I once lived. A local bar had a very nice wooden, BELL Telephone booth with phone. It used to get a lot of use before cell phones became common. I've got to believe it's still there and functional.

I had to use a payphone to check my cell phone a few days ago. Local calls are .75¢ ......... I was expecting .50¢

I used on a few months ago in a hotel when I realized that I forgot my cell phone.

Trouble was that I hardly knew anyone's phone number because they are also in my phone.

Which brings up another question, Does anyone still use a paper address book?
