I AM JUST NOW GETTING TO KNOW OF THE GSSF---- SOUNDS SUPER, IS THERE A PLACE IN IT FOR WHEELCHAIR SHOOTERS ? OR LIKE SO MANY OF THE REST---THE LOCALE --"I WON'T SAY WHICH"-- WHEN THEY HOLD MATCHES, I AM TOLD I CAN'T EVEN WATCH BECAUSE YOU CAN ONLY ATEND IF YOU CAN BE IN THE MATCH AS THEY LIKE THEIR MEMBERS TO ""SHOOT""

Your local club must be brain dead if they wont let you watch or shoot.

GSSF used to and I think still does have a division calledc Challenger for wheelchair shooters and the like.

CGR is correct, GSSF is shooter friendly, all shooters. The High Challenger (physically handicapped) special award still exist.

    Ronnie;

You are more than welcome to watch or compete as far as GSSF is concerned. As a matter of fact GSSF has as "Special Category" of Cash Awards for "High Challenger" (Physically Handicapped) in both Amature Civilian and Amature Guardian Divisions. (Rule 190.50) found in Volume 1 of the Glock Report located at www.gssfonline.com. I would say that in some cases it may depend on the particular match (referring to how the range is layed out)as to whether it would be accessible to folks in wheel chairs. I have seen a few whell chair bound shooters at several matches. I remember one Gentleman in particular at the Jacksonville, Florida Match a couple years ago that was kicking but. He was an excellant marksman and a real gentleman to talk with. I can't recall seeing any wheel chair shooters at the Lexington Match, not to say there hasn't been any. That particular range could be a little more difficult to get to the 5 to Glock stage but not impossible.

Hope this is a little help to your question.

The folks at the match that wouldn't even let you watch sound like a bunch of stupid asses!

You'll be welcomed at a GSSF match and most every shooter there will probably be very helpful. I know the GSSF staff will be helpful. Frank Koo, a very good GSSF shooter, once posted some pictures of a blind shooter shooting a match with the assistance of some of the GSSF staff.

SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD BUNCH OF FOLK'S---I AM THE FIRST TO ADMIT THAT I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE JOINED THIS AREA'S GUN CLUB TO HAVE A RANGE TO SHOOT AT.. WE HAVE NO INDOOR RANGE WITH-IN A 100 MILES. I HAD SEEN ON THEIR WEB SITE THAT YOU HAD TO BE RECOMENDED BY ONE OF THEIR MEMBERS--I CAN UNDERSTAND THAT--AND THAT YOU WERE EXPECTED TO "HELP"--I CAN UNDERSTAND THAT..I FELT KIND OF DUMB WHEN I DID ASK A FELLOW WHO I KNEW AND WAS A MEMBER ABOUT RECOMMENING ME--HE SAID HE WOULD BE GLAD TO BUT THE BIG WIGS WHO HAD THE LAST SAY WOULD NOT APPROVE IT BECAUSE I COULD NOT SHOOT IN "THEIR" TYPE OF MATCHES..IDPA--USPSA/IPSA--- SO I SAID TOO BAD--THEY LOST A GOOD PAPER WORK MAN.. BUT A LITTLE BACK GROUND--I WAS QUALIFIED AS EXPERT IN 3 DIFFERENT WEAPONS IN THE SERVICE--SERVED AS A DETECTIVE WITH THE STATE POLICE AND WAS A RANGE OFFICER FOR A COUPLE OF LOCALE POLICE FORCES --BEFORE OPERATIONS ON MY LEGS FOR INJURIES IN VIET NAM PUT ME IN A WHEELCHAIR...AND IN THE 70'S ONE OF THE RANGE OFFICER'S, WHO IN THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY THAT GOT "THEIR" TYPE OF SHOOTING STARTED AS TRAINING FOR THE LOCALE POLICE FORCES.. I HOPE TO BE CLOSE TO A GSSF MATCH THIS SUMMER TO GET TO AT LEAST WATCH.

I was wrong about the guys at the club that wouldn't let you shoot, they're not just stupid asses, they're really stupid asses!

GSSF has a match in Lexington KY.

Go to www.gssfonline.com to find the next year's match schedule.

There's been a gentleman with no legs shooting at the Hallsville match for at least the past 3 or 4 years. The only "problems" he had that I am aware of was last year when he needed 4 wheel drive and chains on his wheelchair to get through the mud.

    GANG,
THIS IS A SPORT THAT ABOUT ANYONE CAN ENJOY AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE ABLE TO RUN FROM HIDE-SPOT TO HIDE-SPOT OR HANG OFF THE BACK OF A HORSE TO HAVE SOME FUN.. JUST THE FACT TO HAVE SOME ONE TO TALK TO AND SHARE A SPORT SHOULD BE ENOUGH---BUT TO BE AFRAID SOMEONE MIGHT PAY THEIR YEARLY DUES JUST TO SHOOT AT YOUR RANGE--DEAR LORD --DO FORBID---ANYWAY THAT'S PAST AND OFF MY CHEST--MY APPLICATION AND YEARS DUES FOR GSSF IS ON MY DEST AND WILL GO OUT IN THE AM.

    THANKS

    RON

Jakk is correct, the gentlemen that he is talking about has also attended the Greeley match in Colorado. I'm kicking myself right now because I can't remember his name. But I know that the GSSF staff and the Missouri range staff set up a completely separate course of fire on the lower shooting bays where there wasn't as much mud and easier traveling. (Man there was a lot of mud last year.) As I recall he is a very good shooter too.

So be sure to come out and have a great time. Save yourself some trouble and just check the box for a lifetime membership now. It will save on this years dues and you get a nicer hat ;f Welcome to GSSF.

DP, I thought the deal was we were blaming Hallsville on too much good Mexican food the night before.... ;f

But, Ronnie, there would be no lack of folks willing to assist in your quest for a Challenger award at any GSSF match.

And since Dale was his usual sugar-coating, diplomatic self (gotta admire that guy's restraint ;f) about the policy of your local club I'll just add that if they're at all open to the public, this is one time that some scheister ought to sue the pants off them just for the sake of attitude adjustment. There is US statute about such practices. But, hey, tell 'em to stick it and c'mon to a GSSF match. Nobody's gonna patronize you, but everything will be done to make sure you can fully participate in the match.

And, depending on where you are & inclination to travel, Indianapolis comes earlier in the year than Lexington; hope to see you there.

    Ron,

The Lexington, KY is in October. It's a great match with great people Plus some good socializing at night. You are most certainly welcome to shoot the match and have as much fun as everyone else. I must warn you in advance that GSSF is addictive. Other matches you might consider are:

    Marietta, OH
    St. Paul, MN
    Indy
    Hallsville, MO

Team Sidearmor will be there to help you in any way we can. We're the men and women in Grey shirts. Team Carver Mounts will also be there, willing to assist. I'm not sure which color shirts they will be wearing in 2005.

Must be a regional thing. At a club where I used to shoot, we had a man with only one leg shooting IPSC with us. He would move around the courses with crutches.

He wasn't the fastest shooter, but he was always safe and (most importantly) he always had a good time.

I am really not sure but rule 190.50 definately states that it is available to both categories, unless I am not reading it correctly, but that is the way I read it. Perhaps someone could clarify or point out my error.;c ;c ;c

i happened to attend the fulton, NY match when the blind shooter participated...with help from none other than world champion dave sevigny.

occasionally some of us get a little irritated with little things at gssf matches (mostly too much waiting), but everyone at gssf is always very friendly, and they try hard to put on quality matches for us shooters.

I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night - so I read it the same as you. Rule even goes on to specifically list divisions in which the Challenger award does NOT apply, so it's pretty clear.
AmCiv and AmGuardian - bring 'em on!
    ;j

Maybe adding Greeley instead of Marietta, Danny listed my "hope to make" schedule this year. Yes, I'm acknowledging my addiction but I've got a bunch of 'enablers' just to the west of me. ;f

...and what color ARE the Team Carver shirts going to be this year?
