OK Chief, sure thing Chief, you got it Chief.

    I always reply, "Thanks Indian"

So when they call me "chief" do they really mean a-hole?

I do it for fun. I also like to call people "guy." The first time I heard someone do it, I was like WTF? Been doing it ever since just to make fun of it.

I have never heard it used as an insult; I suppose people of Native American descent could take offense. All the people I have ever heard use it were whites talking to other whites.

For me, it's just a guy thing. I call people "Chief" all the time, as well as Buddy, pal, guy, or Steve or Mike if that's their name. It's just a term of endearment. I suppose I could just say "friend" but that feels awkward.

I've worked as a white collar guy in a packing plant, and I can assure you there are worse things to be called.

Is it really that offensive? Or are we guys getting a little too sensitive?

Hell, as long as I'm being addressed with a smile, I could care less.

If you're the kind of guy that responds with "thanks Indian", then yes, I think they really do mean "a-hole"...
