With the invent of the G30S, what is the point of the G30 / G30SF? Do yo think they'll be going away? I can't think of any good reason why Glock would make both models.

G30 is MUCH better for pistol whipping.

Well, until they make an OD G30s, I'll be keeping my OD G30 :)

If I already had a G30 or G30SF, I doubt I'd run out and get the G30S, I just don't think it will be THAT much of an improvement.....BUT having said that, I think it's gonna be an easy decision between the three G30 models. Who's buying the G30S and why?

Had the 30s been released on a gen4 frame I wouldn't see the point in still producing the regular g30, but being a lefty I've still got to choose the 30 gen4 if I want to reverse the mag relase. So if I can find one that will be the one I buy.

I like G30. Little heavier than G30S it has a better muzzle flip control.

If you have any plan or desire to shoot .45 Super ammo or convert a G30 pistol to 10mm or .460 Rowland caliber for woods protection, the standard weight of the slide on the G30/G30SF Gen3 and G30 Gen4 is a distinct advantage over the G30S. Having done both conversions, I wouldn't be comfortable trying it with a lighter slide and full-power 10mm or .460 Rowland ammo. The .460 Rowland conversion requires a compensator or ported barrel in addition to the heavier G30/G30SF slide and stronger recoil spring to manage the recoil. The slide width of the G30/G30SF is also a perfect match for an RMR red dot sight. For some of us, wider and heavier is better.

Describing how the G30S pistol shoots compared to the G30/G30SF, Mas Ayoob made this comment:

"Recoil is subjective, of course, but I feel a little more impact into the web of the hand and a little more muzzle rise with the 30S than with the 30 or 30SF. Not a huge difference, though, and still comfortable to shoot."

Dunno... I have a 30sf and a 36 and a 39... cant see the 30s really being that much of a diff over what I have... I could just put the 36 slide on my 30sf....

Better question is "what is the point of the 30s?"

    :rofl::rofl:LOL.

    Made my day.

I have both 30sf and 36 and like both the way they are.
But not sure why they will need both 30 and 30S.
Not sure the difference in thickness at hand but doublestack 30
    does feel thicker.

G30S is a Gen 3 frame, G30 is available in Gen 4. So the question is, is the Gen 3 G30 going away?

While you may be correct, what percentage of G30 owners will ever do those conversions? 1%? Maybe less?

My 30SF shoots more accurate for me than any other of my Glocks. Heavy and bulky but concealable in a MTAC.

It's an awesome little pistol for protection in the back country. My girlfriend converts her G30SF to 10mm and I carry the G30SF Rowland. Both are converted back to 45ACP for CCW in the city.

GT member voonman posted a very informative thread with pics and video about his G30SF .460 Rowland conversion if you are interested.

I have both a Glock 30 and a Glock 36. I LOVE my 30 and will continue to carry it. If I want a G30s I will just put the 36 slide on the 30. It does work and I have shot it. Still prefer the 30. The extra weight helps control recoil.

You can't land a plane on the 30S slide, too thin.

I just realized, they could have killed two birds with one stone. The 30s is on a Gen 3 frame because they haven't made a 36 gen 4, so they would need to make a gen 4 slide for that if Rey wanted a gen 4 30s. Seems like the perfect time to release 36 gen 4 in conjunction.
