I have a third Gen that I love and I just got a 2nd Gen from my dad. It is about a 94 and it is smooth. I like the feel of the grip and shoots very well. Just wondering what the general consensus is on the 2nd Gen G17's?

Hey Army I have never heard any bad reports on the 2nd Gen G17's its a vintage classic.

My G17 2nd Gen is one of my favorite guns to shoot...so much so that I'll be turning her into a competition gun soon. She still has the original Mepro night sights (1993) and need replacing...maybe a little trigger work???

This particular gun was carried on duty from May 93 until April 96. She's seen a lot of IDPA stock class and tons of range time. At one point I had over 18,000 rounds documented through her. Unfortunately, I lost the book and have not kept up the total...but she's well over 20,000 now...with no obvious wear!

As far as the grip goes...smooth and dreamy...like I said, one of my favorites...of all time!

They are great! I never did take a shining to the finger grips of the newer models. My G19, G20 and G21 are all second generation.

I like my Gen II G17 better than the Gen III's.

and who cares how much dirt is on them, they'll still function just fine.
