Whats that USB port on my DIshNetwork DVR for?

    Can I transfer recorded programs from the dish hard drive to my laptop? What extra equipment is needed?

    My directv TiVo has one also. Apparently in the "stock" TiVo, you can connect your box to your in house LAN and either swap recordings from one box to another, and also control the TiVo from any computer in the world. I don't know if your TiVo needs a visible IP address, but I doubt this would be the case.

    This feature is "disabled" in my DTV box, and it may also be in the DISHNet boxes as well.

    To get it to work, according to the TiVo web site, you attach one of the known compatible USB->10bT adapter. Attach said connector to your LAN, and it's supposed to work.

    Some of the newer Dish DVR's have USB ports to transfer recordings to PocketDISH, their portable DVR viewer.

    I dont know if you could transfer the shows to you comp or not. My DishDVR model doesnt have the USB port.
