I have a 3rd generation Glock 17 wi/300 rounds through it that I’d like to trade for a new G19. What is a fair trade value that I should try to get from a local dealer?

    Don't expect much..
Better off selling your G17 in private sale, then buying your G19 outright.

They are always going to compare what they buy new wholesale, to yours being used...

In other words, you'll be really lucky if a dealer offers you ~$300- for it!

your local dealer isnt going to give you near what you can get from a private deal. Sometimes its better to just soak it up and buy another gun and keep the one you allready own. But IMHO, a g17 around my way goes for 500-600 dollars depending on night sights or not. they would probably give you 200-300 for it. based on what my local dealers pay.

You would be lucky to get $300 in trade, but probably less.

An FTF trade for a similar age/condition is your best option. Like trading in cars.... Good luck, hope you can get your 19 real soon!

Around here a nice used gen 3 17 is around $425. The best you would do in trade is probably $325. I would sell the 17 outright for $400-$425 and just buy the 19.

Thanks for the quick feedback everyone! Looks like I’ll be buying a new G19 and trying to sell mine locally.
Skanless you’re too kind with your offer, I’d hate to take advantage of you like that! LOL!!

Definately sell it to a private buyer. Check out local or regional forums where you can advertise as a private seller. In Texas we have the Texas Hunting Forum and Texas Gun Trader where Glocks are sold and traded in great frequency within driving distance. Your User area doesn't show your location but if your in a populated area there should be some forums to advertise your Glock. I just bought a N.I.B. Glock 17 for $425 from a private seller in my area. I know it was a good deal. I'm seeing used ones going for $400-$475 around here.

On a serious note tho. Take advice from everybody else. Your best bet is a private sell. :wavey:

Thanks TexasVine, I just updated my profile to show my location, (Charlotte, NC). I'll look to sell locally. We have a gun show coming up in a couple of weeks perhaps I could sell it there. Thank you for your input!

    Best regards,
    Jason

You could always sent the 17 off for a chop job so it'd take G19 mags.

I'm sure there is a local or state gun forum in NC that posts WTS ads. Much easier to do a FTF in state.

just keep it and find a way to get the 19 without getting rid of the 17...you will end up kicking yourself in the *** for letting it go...been there done that!!

Private sale will get you the most money. If someone comes to your house to look at it they may come back when your not there. Make sure that you take it to a firing range to let them look at it. Trading it in may not be the best as far as profit goes but in the long run it could be safer.

Buy the G19...Keep your G17...You will regret giving it up.

I'm not one to even mention not buying another gun, but have you compared each of those side by side. Not much size difference.

As others have said-sell it to a private party for $400 or thereabouts and have cash in hand at the dealer. Trading in a gun is a worse deal than trading in a car.
