I just bought this Honda CL175 and placed it on eBay. I believe it is a 1971 model because it was made 8/70. A customer says it is a 1970 or a 1972. What do you think?

I think that is a 1970 in Candy Topaz Orange. The only 72 I have seen was a dark red/burgandy color.

that little black plate on the steering neck should say. (if you don't know the steering neck is the tube of the frame that the front end attaches too)

Hey it is not nice to laugh at people that can't put the facts together. When I said "it was made 8/70" maybe he thought I made that number up and did not look there.

hard to say, and (unlike cars) the production date doesn't help. back then honda would build a batch of bikes, and whenever they sold them, thats what year they got titled as.

My Cd175 has a smaller frame then the one pictured.
It's got a single carb and a 6 volt electrical system.

    Ding!Ding!Ding!....we have a winner.

Honda had a class action lawsuit filed against them for "updating" MSO's sometime in the early '70's.

They had warehouses of noncurrent bikes (last year or older models). They reissued MSO's for a later model year thereby making old bikes newer than they were.

So today when you look at a Honda motorcycle "vin plate" you can read the model year from about 10 feet away. And now you know why!

    You're welcome.
