I was issued a well well used s&w model 10 when I got my first security job in 1981. I was able to talk my boss into getting several of us colt series 80 1911's . I have loved the 1911 ever since. Heavy but thin and very very reliable. I was later offered a smith model 59, but stayed with the 1911.

My First Duty Weapon was a Third Gen G19 and I carried it with two spare Mags for about 15 years! I qualified at the top of my class every year with this gun. This was the Best shooting Glock that I ever owned!(y)

In 1984, at our department, you went through the academy with a revolver and, were required to carry a revolver the first two years. Self purchased.

When I went through the academy, as a reserve, one of my fellow students was one of the first Gunsite graduates and, One of Colonel Coopers first instructors at Gunsight. To put it mildly, a 1911 fan. There was no one at the department that had anywhere close to his pedigree. So, my fellow student, became our firearms instructor. Under the tutelage of the director of the regional academy. Who was also a Reserve at our department (rules and stuff we’re more casual back then)

So, I did all my Academy training with a lightly modified Colt 1911. Series 70.

Graduated and, the Department firearms instructor, also a 1911 fan, waived the 2 year revolver rule and, I started with a 1911.

And, because of my buddy, we ordered duty holsters, Sam Browns and double mag holders. Custom made for us by Milt Sparks.

I was living large back then.

My first duty issue was a Colt 1911 .45 in the Army. My first issue LEO weapon was
a S&W model 10 w/ a 4 inch barrel. Carried a revolver from 69 to 90 when I went back
to a Colt 1911 Combat Elite.

Smith & Wesson model 19 with 4" barrel.

First holster was a "Jordan" style with strap but quickly switched to a Bianchi security holster.

Duty round was the Remington 125 grain 38 Special plus P. For practice we shot 158 lswc rounds!

Also carried 2 speed loaders on belt...LOL...Old guys were still using their issued "dump pouches"!
