im having trouble deciding what gun to buy next to ccw during the summer months

considering im not so large (5'11 185lbs), which would be easier to conceal under a regular tshirt,

a thin 9mm (kahr cw9)

OR

a J-frame revolver (ruger lcr)?

ive been trying to decide for a couple weeks now and needing some guidance and direction from more experienced ccw'ers; and the firearm will be carried mostly in a smartcarry fyi...thanks for any help

In the summer months I carry a MP5 in my backpack, backed up by a G19 at 03:00 o'clock.

The rest of the year it's the MP5 under my coat, backed up by the G19 at 03:00 o'clock.

Kahr 9mms are a breeze to CCW. My K9 is a very nice gun. Except for the loose top round in the reload magazine, which was the final straw for me. But if you don't intend to carry a reload mag, that won't be an issue. Then I would highly recommend a Kahr.

My jframe rides in my strong side front pocket. It used to be the g26 w CT laser grip @ 1700 in a supertuck, but the m&p 340 w CT laser grip is just too easy to carry. The superfly pocket holster in deep pockets is perfect. A Bianchi speed strip fits in the coin pocket. I've tried to make myself take the glock but always go to the ole .357 mag wheelgun. I will strap the g26 on my ankle as a bug occasionally. Desantis leather ankle holsters are comfortable and durable.
Take the one that meets your needs.

I carry a G23 all day when not working at 3 O'clock in a paddle holster. I then transition to my J frame at night because I can pocket carry it in a DeSantis Superfly holster in my sleeping shorts. I then put the J Frame in a quick access electronic safe along with my G23 during the night. I feel that I can get to the .40 in a hurry if anything goes bump in the night. I need the safe because I have a 12 year old son who is just as curious as I was at his age. I say to go for both, and follow what I do. It works for me!

If you're going to carry it in a Smartcarry why ask about T-shirt coverage? FWIW I carried a G21SF with just a T for cover for 3 years until I bought a Taurus 650 revolver this year. That's what I ended up carrying but if I was going to start carrying from scratch I'd probably go with a Ruger LC9 in the back pocket.

As I am about to buy $100 in carry-grade ammo (Gold dots) to test/qualify them in my autoloader as a new carry load, I see why revolvers remain popular.

Maybe I got the carry thing all wrong but here are my thoughts. I personally like to shoot a more full size gun. G22 is what I chose. Now I dress around the gun. Tommy THEIS IWB, Re-enforced Instructor belt, pants 1-2 sizes bigger, un-tucked shirts. I figure this way, I am always prepared to carry a full size gun and if I need to go smaller then a G19, G23, G26, G27 fits perfectly in my carry attire without any adjustments. As far as summer goes, everything stays the same except I am in 1-2 sizes bigger shorts and I am going to try an all Kydex holster because I sweat a lot. Carry big and walk softly. Good luck,
Mike

Hey bruzer, you don't have it wrong.
You have it right.
You carry the gun that you shoot best or like the best or feel comfortable with.
You then dress around it.
I don't think of my carry gun as needing to be comfortable as much as comforting to me.
That's why I carry a G21 all the time. No matter what the weather.
Before that I carried a full size 1911 for over 30 years.
Of all the reasons I carry a gun I don't consider how comfortable they might or might not be.

I've been in law enforcement coming up on three years now, and being such, I like to carry all the time; I like to carry whatever I'm dressed in and sometimes it does not make sense to wear larger pants and larger shirts for the occassion so I dress in normal attire, and would like a pistol for such occassions, hence my decision to go with a pistol that is easier to conceal (and I shoot both the revolver and semi-auto decently well)

You are on Glock Talk, so the best two answers would be G27 or G26.

If you want smaller there are a ton of 380 Caliber pocket guns now days. Some of the popular smaller guns are S&W Bodyguard, Keltec, and Ruger LCP. Snub nosed revolvers are always popular. A Smith & Wesson or a Ruger revolver are hard to beat.

Best answer is buy more than one gun. Problem solved.

I agree with some of the posts above... You carry the best gun for you, the one you shoot the best, and dress to hide it.

I carry a full size 10mm Glock 20 IWB and hide it under a t-shirt or untucked Polo-shirt.

About a month ago, during 80* weather, I was in a mid sized town about a half an hour north of where I live here in Ohio. I was walking in the Wal-mart and spotted an older man wearing a snug black t-shirt and blue jeans. This guy was at least 75 years old, maybe even older. He was 140 lbs at best, and not quite 6 foot tall. He was moving slow, pushing a shopping cart. So I'm thinking; old, frail, WWII vet. You know, some body's Great Grandpa. Then he turns slightly bladed to me as he leaves the isle and I can see his right hip... Good Lord he was hiding what had to be a Columbus City phone book under his t-shirt in an IWB holster. It was clearly a full sized M1911 under his snug black t-shirt, but on him, this thing looked huge!! It sounds funny to say, but he was well with in the Concealed Carry Laws here in Ohio. I'm sure he in not trying to hide a 256 count box of Crayons under his shirt, but as long as it is "concealed" that is all that matters.

I would say he is carrying what makes him feel comforted. Now he just needs to dress a little differently to help hide it better.

So I guess if you wear an Adult Medium t-shirt, a full sized Glock 20 or 21 or maybe a full sized M1911 is asking a bit much of any garment to hide... but who knows... maybe your this guy I saw in Wal-mart and your just too old to give a F%ck. What is it they say about fighting an old man...? If he is too old and tired to fight he may just kill you, or something like that.

Don't compromise on your Concealed Carry Weapon because of weather or season, just do what you have to in order to hide it.
