Constables were some of the earliest peace officers here in Texas, and they still play an important part in our local government now. They are da poe-leece, here, but why this fella wasn’t aware of LEOSA, I couldn’t tell you.

I bet I could ask around to the officers in my agency as well as the others I come into contact with in my area and find one or more with no knowledge of it also. Sad, but true.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't each county have a Sheriff's Office and an elected Constable? Kind of duplicative?
That would be like saying there is no need for state troopers since local LE conduct traffic stops and work accidents, etc. Constables have duties like bailiff for county justice of the peace courts, carry out evictions, serve warrants out of their JP’s court, and serve civil papers among other duties they may want to take on. We have two constables in my county, and one just does his constitutional duties while the other took on environmental crimes. Some contract for patrol services like in Houston, they have mental health units in some counties, some do mounted and bike patrol, etc etc. Again, they are just part of local Texas LE.

I asked a lieutenant buddy of mine who is intelligent, and he told me he didn't know. He immediately recalled when I began explaining it. I had others captive at lunch, but we got scattered by being called away. I will asked again after I'm back.

The guys who are still working don’t have to requal to be covered by LEOSA.

Too bad that it’s a pain for you to get it done. It has benefits that a CCW doesn’t . LEOSA protects one from local prohibitions like carrying in a place that serves alcohol ( as long as you don’t partake). It’s also the thing that is protecting us from some the crazy laws the anti-gun people are passing in response to the Bruen decision. I know your area seems safe now but your state is turning bluer by the minute
Another reason I don’t want to get a license to carry here in Texas is it puts me into the system. I want to remain anonymous when I retire again. If I’m stopped, I don’t want any drama when an uptight officer hears over the radio I have an LTC. Better if he asks during his investigation.
