With all the concern about a nationwide assault weapons ban, what state currently has the best laws that the country should model after. What are the laws that make that state ideal to follow? Or is there a city or county that has their own ordinances that got it right. In CA there are many counties that don't allow ammo to be shipped into that county, this they got wrong.

IMHO, it would be a combination of Kentucky and Alaska.

Alaska for no permit required to conceal carry, and Kentucky for having their concealed deadly weapon permit that covers non-firearms, plus less restrictions on where to carry.

Not sure if you guys realized this, but New Mexico has open carry without a permit at age 19+. Not to mention your vehicle is considered an extension of your home.

There is no one state that has everything right.
AK has it right with no permit to carry but they have too many off limit places.

PA has some of the best carry laws because there are hardly any places off limits. Court houses and they have to supply a lock box. Schools are still gray until case law decides it is off limits. For the states that do issue permits PA's is a better one, $20 for 5 years and no training, fingerprints and only take 15 minutes in most counties. We can also carry class3 weapons with our permit.
oh, we have open carry with no permit at 18.

AZ, land of Title II, no permits for OC or CC, carry in bars if not posted. Can carry any weapon of choice, up to and including a full auto suppressed MAC, and I've seen them do it

Have a great gun carryin' Kenpo day

Idaho is quite simple too. No issues here and I have carried for 19 years here.

    Arizona is not bad.

Ohio does suck but look at where we were just 9 years ago. We've come a long way.

Acutally, anywhere you happen to be legally is an "extension of your home" for self-defense purposes.....

Also, no FID, FOID, or other "permits" to purchase, no registration, no limits on stocks, magazines capacity, etc, and private sales with no paperwork are perfectly legal.

Came a long way, but still far from AZ. Some days I think my permit only permits my carry of my permit.

Actually, other than no=permit carry, just about all of Kentucky law on guns and self defense is much more favorable to the shooter.

Texas, Arizona, Alaska and Vermont may be candidates, but in the big picture, Kentucky leads. There is more to life that carrying without a permit (AK,AZ and VT) or shooting fleeing thieves (TX) and those are their only stronger points.
