Been in the painting trade for 35 yrs, my brain is fried. I have been asked plenty of times by customers if the paint fumes get to me, I reply “what fumes”?

You realize that one is not contingent upon the other, right? :tongueout:

I'll add fresh sawdust and the scent of a lacquered Les Paul when the case is freshly opened to the list.

That reminds me of happy vacations and boating when I was a yute.

The smell of a humidor with Spanish cedar and filled with cigars. Nothing else like it in the world.

Old oxidized oil. Like in old school gas stations, factories, machine shops, workshops etc. I literally grew up in gas stations.

OMG, I can't believe I forgot this one. The acrid aroma of coal fired steam locomotives from years past.

This past summer I saw the UP's Big Boy and was a bit disappointed that it used oil to fire the boilers.

There are a lot of smells that bring back good memories, and some that actually smell good. Most of what I call "good" smells are various foods cooking or baking, along with woods/nature smells from forest to ocean.

New mown alfalfa hay. For me anyways. I like the other smells mentioned but that aroma transports me “back in time”, to happier days. Ones I will never see again.

    A BBQ restaurant -

    you know, the kind that:

serves the meal on wax paper on a tray

ladies prefer not to eat there unless they plan to wash their hair the same night

Fresh, clean BABY... scooped right outta the bubbly tub and wrapped up in a pre-warmed, super fluffy, soft towel, with that widdle baby head and fine baby hair and smiling, glowing baby face peaking out the top of the baby-towel-burrito like a freshly washed peach!

I like how horses smell. I also like the smell of city sidewalks immediately after a rain. And I love the scent of a woman.

I too love the smell of bacon, as well as gasoline. But ...

There was a woman I would run into on a regular basis. We were not friends, just acquaintances, and I was not attracted to her. But her perfume was absolutely intoxicating. I have NEVER been so affected by anything like this before. Many women smell amazing, but this woman was off the freakin charts. It was CONSUMING. I did eventually ask her what perfume she was wearing, and it was one I was familiar with, but it never smelled THIS good on anyone else. I recall the smirk on her face after I asked...

I will agree, at the risk of sounding like Uncle Joe...

My baby girls hair right out of the bath cuddling with her in the rocker before bedtime after her story. My wife buys some kind of lavender mix shampoo for her and she puts that head right on my shoulder. Doesn’t matter what kind of day I had, that right there is heaven.

As kids in elementary school, when the teacher would pass out "hand-outs" (mostly tests) the whole room was filled with kids sniffing the paper

Orange blossoms, Magnolia blossoms, and smell of the woods in the early morning as well as fresh sawn oak, black walnut and most sawn lumber around an old saw mill.
Fly fishing up a small stream and get to a shady area has a smell all its own.
