I have this rifle:

If I were to mount say a 30mm-40mm tube style red dot on it, how tall of a riser would I need to keep the front sight post from interfering with the red dot? I understand that I will likely still be able to see the sight post through the scope, which doesnt really bother me, I just dont want it to be in the way.

You want a mount set up for a lower 1/3 co-witness (the sights will take up the bottom 1/3 of the red dot tube).

I have one riser that is about 3/4" tall and places the iron sites about halfway up the red dots' lens. One about 1/2" tall should co-witness in the lower third of the lens. I had one on my Bushmaster set up like that. When co-witnessed with front and rear iron sights, I adjusted the red dot so it appeared on the tip of the front sight pin. The red dot marked the target and the irons kept a fine line on things. If the red dot failed, I was still in the fight.

Find your optic, they have the correct mount.

If they don't, you probably don't have the right optic.

Think about that.

Bingo.

Assuming you have a Comp M2/3/PRO, the LT-129 is the mount you want. Cantilevered, has a waterproof compartment for an extra battery, and puts the front iron sight in the bottom third of the tube.

Thanks for the info and links. I really can't justify a $400+ optic on a $650 rifle just for plinking. I'm probably going to go cheaper than that. I'm looking for less than $100 and then trying to match up a riser to it.

If it's a pure range toy, I'd look at Primary Arms. They get a lot of good reviews on their Aimpoint clones, and they're pretty inexpensive. No offense to the guys at PA, but I wouldn't run one on a weapon I'd be betting my life on, but they seem great for range use.

Thanks! I'll look into them. My gun is a pure range toy. Do they also need risers or do they come with higher mounts?

Yep, they offer 1/3rd cowitness mounts for the Aimpoint clones. Their "high" mounts should be what you need.

Marshal from PA posts on here from time to time, and they have a great rep on customer service.

All our red dots offer AR specific mount options. The M4 style comes with a integrated AR mount. Take a look here and let me know f you have any questions.
