And that price is for the rifle off the shelf. Another $3,000.00 for fine tuning.

There are more than a few GTers that could outshoot that sorry lot with an off the shelf Ruger 10/22, using Federal 40gr ammo, no optics, from the back of a bucking bronco, waist high in a stream with a fast moving undercurrent, and the target is strapped to the backside of a 2000lb cow that was just branded.

    all weak handed, of course.

And then there are a few Glock Talkers that know what it really takes to shoot accurately.

Some biathletes might still be using bolt-actions, but everyone I saw this weekend used a straight-pull rifle.

I wants me one of those!!!

Their site says 95% of the biathletes use the Anschutz Fortner. The rest are probably using a Russian made rifle. I heard there is a push from some folks to get away from using an actual firearm and to use a rifle fitted with a laser and laser reactive targets. Sounds silly as things like temperature, elevation, wind, barometric pressure, and humidity all effect bullet trajectory but won't effect the laser. Also, the laser has a perfectly flat trajectory, bullets drop. Seems like it is taking away from the sport a bit.

That's $3k without sights. Another $400-$500 for the sights.

Alright, Vafish! You do have reason to be proud, not many parents have the insight and responsibility to get their kids involved in target shooting. :number1:

Competitive target shooting was one of the best things that happened to me as a kid. Still shoot my Anchutz rifle almost every week. I'm not as good a shot now but I still retain the skills to out shoot anybody I know who wasn't a competitor as a kid. Learning as a child really cements those skills.

I think, when originally introduced to Olympics, they fired regulation military calibers. Memory dimms...

    What ammo are they using?

I'm sure it's not bulk packs from Wal-Mart.
