What predator are you most afraid of in the woods?

    Two-legged varmints don't count!

Growing up in Idaho, I spent a lot of time camping in the woods and have encountered many large predators.

Bears where I camped were all black bears, and they were mostly afraid of humans, so I wasn't really afraid of them.

The only other predator we had were Mountain Lions, and those were also very wary of human contact.

In the last decade or so, the liberals have reintroduced wolves into the woods and the population exploded, as well as the reports of people being stalked by them.

Grizzly bears have also made a come back...

Out of those two, wolves would be my biggest fear, even though I know grizzlies kill many people per year...:dunno:

If a big cat wants you dead, will you see it before it kills you?

Wolfs cant climb trees so there is a chance of escape.

I would have to say large cat would be the most scary, fast and quite. Bear would be a close second.

After living on the AKPEN with the coastal bears, I don't think there is anything that scares me or at least up here. Maybe polar bears, but that has more to do with having to deal with the fedpukes if you DLP one of them than it does the bear itself.

I don't know.......... most of the cougars I've met seem to have a crazy streak in them. They do kinda scare me.

Mountain lions OTOH can be death from above in thick timber.

Backpacking alone often, the two legged ones are what I worry about.

I am not too concerned about bears or cougar. My fear is insects, spiders and scorpions. I have a greater chance of serious injury from them where I hang out that the bears or cougars we have.

Rattlesnakes. When I'm out bow hunting I worry when stalking an animal because I'm sneaking, and sneaking up on a snake gets you bit.

Wolves aren't going to bother you, bears (around here) aren't gonna mess with you unless you threaten them and the cougars (the ones in the wild, not in the bars) in my experience seem to be more curious than threatening.
