Did something happen to you and you decided you needed to get your carry permit, or did you just decide on your own that you wanted it? I know a guy who got beaten to near death and that was the wake-up call he needed to get his permit. I'd imagine most people just got it because they wanted to be prepared, but nothing drastic happened to lead to them getting it.

Wanting to have the legal ability to buy more than one firearm in a month. An added bonus is to be able to avoid NICS checks.

The summer of 1990 I was in the corrections academy for the new jail being built. At the time, the Sheriff did not back his correction officers carrying off duty. I also received a buy out from my old job, about $1000 dollars. My wife allowed me to get the Florida permit and we sued the balance for the house. Fast forward to Act 218 and a new Sheriff. Correction officers are now authorized to carry an approved, inspected weapon. Things do change for the better.

Just because I can. It should be my Constitutional right to carry without any kind of permit. But since it isn't, I want to exercise my right as much as possible.

I've always been a gun nut and always kept one handy in one way or another, (but legally) although I've mostly lived in states that didn't issue permits. I had carried legally at times during my career, but I've always wanted to be able to carry legally all the time. Now I can and do so when ever possible.

I've never had to use a gun for self defense per-say, but I've had quite a few occasions where I was durn glad I had it even though I didn't have to show it. I still follow the advice of not going anywhere or doing anything I wouldn't, if I didn't have the gun. But it's mighty comforting to know I have it.

Bad things happen to the nicest of people in the darndest of places. Granted, the odds aren't good, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

because I plan on dying an old man in my own bed, not face down in a gutter because some bad guy wants to do me, or my family, harm

I just wanted to get it if I ever get tired of being a LEO so I could still carry . I encourage lots of people to get theirs because bad guys will ALWAYS carry ! Only GOOD guys follow the rules , BAD guys always carry . That is why I hate these places that dont let handgun carry permit holders carry in their buisnesses . I tell them that BAD guys are in here now carrying and they say "no they arent , we have a sign" I then say that we (us good guys) follow the law and the bad guys dont !"

I wanted to be able to carry a handgun while camping/hunting/fishing/whatever and not have to worry about how a cop would interpret the law. (Arkansas is not an open carry state) Easier to legally transport in a car, and handy if I ever get mugged :D. And I was turning 21.
