IIIa can be sewn into a suit jacket now. It looks a little bulkier, but not much more than a heavy breakfast.

Level II isn't really noticeable.

In the NIJ standard, there is also a maximum amount of backface deformation (measured in a ballistic clay backer; ASTM E3068-17, ASTM E3107-17a), typically for soft armor, used as an indicator of acceptable levels of blunt force trauma. Since there was little deformation in the hard plate, I'd expect it to meet the standard.

It does look rifle plate like. Maybe poly because it tends to be bulky but it is light.
