Maybe it's just me, but poor grammar and spelling just kill me, although I just tend to ignore it and figure people are too lazy to speak and spell correctly. The one that just seems to push my button though is this use of "prolly" or some iteration of it as a substitute for "probably". Is this part of the hood-ification of the English language? Are people just that lazy? I don't know why this one thing is getting to me so much. I'm done ranting.

Yes, I am expecting a quick reply of "prolly" to my questions. :tongueout:

Online communication has altered the English language in many fundamental ways. This is only a bad thing if people are unable to communicate in proffessional prose as well, which many are.

'Prolly' is one of the only abbreviations I use. Also 'cos' for because. But only in IM or texting.

Even when I text, I use proper grammar and spelling. I'm trying to instill that mentality in my children, although I believe I'm wasting my time. It's a lost cause.

"Prolly" doesn't really bother me too much. I think it's funny to see it typed out, as it really isn't much quicker than typing probably, if you can type at all.

Anyway, I much prefer to hate the prolific use of "+1." Retarded. Even worse is "+1000" or "+1,000,000." Worse still is that I have friends who persist in doing this.

Well I'm prolly gonna piss you off, cause I kinda like to write like I talk.

When it's appropriate that is, such as when I'm on a gun forum. I don't do that on the job or where I think it's in poor taste.

    P. S. I don't use "prolly", but I do use "kinda" and "gonna". :wavey:

I think "prolly" has its origins in 13 year old girl messenger speak (AOL IM, MSN Messenger, now text messaging, etc.), Sort of like "u" and "OMG" ... and so forth

What irks me .. in adults is: "supossably" (instead of supposedly). What the hell is "supposably"?

Then how come some many people prove they can spell probably when discussing anything related to a police encounter and the "probably cause?"

I always get a kick out of that one
