I don't want to talk about it. But what I will say is when you deer hunt and you are in the stand, in the dark for hrs and hrs YOU SEE THINGS.

The land I hunt on is the only spring fed lake around and there is a house that used to be a church about a 100yrds away from my stand. I think I see the people that lived and died there. I have see other stuff that is just to weird to talk about.;E ;R ;W ;b ;L

Two years ago I was deer hunting in north west LA, it was early morning when I noticed a deer step out approximately 70 yards down the tail. No visible horns on him and I could take a doe but he looked small so I decided to let him walk. The deer walked down the trail straight at me as I eyed him through my scope. Then I saw his buttons. I watched as he walked under my stand and stopped. Suddenly an armadillo walked out of the woods and right up to the little buck and they began to play, the buck pounced one way and then the other, the armadillo followed suit. I could not bealeave what I was watching. This went on approximately two minutes before the buck trotted into the woods with the armadillo following close behind.;S ;a

I gave him a nickname, "lucky buttons" If it were a doe I may have shot her.

BIG cat;P About 80-90 lbs, with a white ring around the tail, and a wrinkled face.It couldn't have been a panther, because the Wildlife Dept. says they do not exist in Mississippi;Q Maybe that's why they are on the endangered list here;L

I saw a old beat up VW van sitting in the woods. Very deeply at a minimum of 5 miles off any normal dirt roadway.

I do believe it was a bunch of yo-yos the tried driving in off the road and got stuck, so they left the van. it was smashed to bit, shot up windows, doors, etc..... So I guess the hunters got target practice in on the Volkswagon.

btw: I threw a couple of rounds into it also.

Nope... doesn't count. The thread says strange things you have seen. What's so strange about a pile of poop looking like Hillary? ;)

Seriously, the strangest thing I've ever seen was a 10pt buck carrying a rifle. Yep... it's true. A hunter nearby my stand shot a 10pt buck on opening morning at about 10am. Before tagging, gutting, etc, he decided to have his buddy take his picture of him with his trophy. He knelt down over the buck with his .30-30. But... the buck wasn't dead. Apparently just stunned. It got up and took off... with the hunter's rifle's sling entangled in it's antlers. It ran by my tree-stand as I was climbing down to go investigate the nearby shot (which I thought might have come from my cousin), and I had already lowered my unloaded rifle down on a rope.

    The rifle was never found.

Wasn't quite in the woods, but was near them. I had a woodcock scratching for gravel in my driveway yesterday get mugged by a chipmunk. Woodcock was just minding his own business and chipmunk jumped him. Must have thought it was trying to take the seeds that fall in the driveway from the trees. Funniest thing I've seen in a while.

    True Story:

I was on my way out to my bow-hunting stand a few years back. I hardly ever use my flashlight when walking in the dark, especially in the morning; why take the chance spooking game, right? So there I am walking through a harvested bean field along a fence line trying to be as quiet as I can, but walking through those bean stubbles makes it a little hard. I have at least a 400-yard walk down to my spot. As I walk I keep hearing, what sounds to me, to be footsteps coming from somewhere behind, but I just figured it was an echo off the fence line I was next to. A little further down, I finally realize that it ain’t no echo at all, someone or something was defiantly behind me! It’s still very dark. I decided to stop & I hear at least 2 more footsteps from behind me before they also stop. This makes me just a hair nervous, but I keep my cool & start walking again but only this time just a bit faster. I then realize that those footsteps seem to speed up as well… I stop again. I hear at least 2 more footsteps before they stop. Okay, now I’m a bit more nervous then last time, but I again keep my cool & start walking a bit faster then the time before. I notice again that the steps from behind me have also sped up! This time I start looking for my flashlight in my pack… I can’t find it, I look for it some more, but it isn’t there either. I finally have to stop & put some of my stuff down so I can get to where I think my light is… once again I HEAR 2 MORE FOOTSTEPS before they stop as well! I finally find my light, turn around & twist the end of my Mini Mag-Light. I shine it around at about chest level, but see nothing… I think: “What the…” I then shine it more towards the ground & which this time I find my stalker. It’s a big fat SKUNK only 10 FEET AWAY!!! He’d been following me for the whole time & I’m guessing I had to have almost stepped on him somewhere near the beginning of my travels! I’m lucky I didn’t get sprayed at that point!

I gathered all my stuff up again very, very slowly. I then eased myself backwards very, very slowly. Once out of spraying range, I put some distance between that skunk & me! I ended up getting busted by some deer down the way as I was making a bit of noise while running at them. Needless to say, I didn’t see a thing all morning from my stand…….

    Stupid stalking skunks…;Q

I don't know if I would call it the strangest, but I think the most fascinating thing I've ever seen in the woods. I was down in Zion's Park a number of years ago with my girlfriend and we spotted a fawn laying very still in the underbrush. We sat down about 20 yards away and watched.

Suddenly the mother appeared out of no where and nudged the fawn up onto its feet while looking at us cautiously and started to move away. We continued to watch them, when not more than five yards from us another fawn got up and started moving off with the other two. They were twins! We never saw the other fawn until it started to move off.

I was hunting white-tails in upstate New York. I saw a large white "dog" in the brush next to the orchard. It was around 10:00 and I was sitting with one of my partners eating. We both saw it and assumed it was the farmers dog. Moved like a deer. Thought it was an Irish woofhound. We never picked up our glass for a good look.

Come to find out that there was an alleged albino deer that had been spotted off and on for years. The farmer was a bit upset that we hadn't shot it. Seems people thought he was seeing things.

Saw a doe with an antler. Shot a unicorn once. Had a doe walk up behind me as I was sitting on a ridge and sniff the back of my neck. Thought it was a buddy trying to sneak up on me and play a trick. Imagine my surprise when I turned around, not to mention the doe.

    Regards, SSC

How about one where the woods come home to you?;Q

I got off from working about 32 hours straight and came home. Wife had had to leave town a few hours before. I got home and opened the back door to let the dog and cat outside. Sat down on the couch, and next thing I remember it was the next morning.

I got up and walked into the kitchen to make some coffee, and as I passed the dining room table I saw something that didn't register. Went on into the kitchen and started coffee before it finally sank in. Walked back into the dining room and sure enough, there was a racoon sitting on the dining room table with a banana under his arm.

I just stood and stared. He was a big fat boar, but he wasn't worried about me looking at him. He just sat there. Seems like a couple of minutes went by. He finally grunted and got down onto the floor and waddled out the back door, still pretty slow, no hurry at all. Found the cat in the top of the closet, and the dog in the bathroom. Apparently they had no intention of tangling with this guy ;f. You have to admire discretion.

Funniest part of the whole thing was talking to my wife that night on the phone. Told her the story and she went quiet for a bit, then said "But Honey, we don't have any bananas."

    Guess I'll never know :).

not really in the woods but along a road going in. i saw a beat-up pick-up whose front registration plate was in an alphabet i couldn't understand. the driver was a 6-point whitetail buck who was whistling as he drove by. on the camper rack on the roof was a man dressed like he was out hunting. he was stretched out on the rack, hands and feet bound by ropes and yelling, "HELP!!!!"

There are many idiot anti hunters that would love to see that senario, sadly, they are under educated on the subject of wildlife, and hunting in general...Usually they have bought in to the very bad ideas of peta, and other groups that display sub-normal intelligence. We can all rest in the fact that those type of fantasies will never come true, much to the chagrin of bleeding heart liberals everywhere.
