It has been said that having the ability to laugh at ones' self builds good character. So lets laugh at ourselves. What is the dumbest firearm related "myth"or "thing" you used to believe in?

I used to believe that cast lead bullets melted upon firing and that's why all the folks shot in "The Wild Bunch" made big blood spatters. An uncle told me that when we saw that Jesse James flick with the Caradine and Keach brothers in it.

in High School i use to think this buddy of mine knew all about real shooting untill i found out he was full of it

    - nothing less than a .45 should be used for home defense
    - the FAMAS is a excellent military rifle
    - the 1911 is the most reliable handgun in the world
    - glocks are plastic , and plastics shouldn't be on guns
    - M-14 are too heavy for those under the age of 20

8 years later he still refuses to go to the range with anyone, and is a proud owner(according to his facebook) of a airsoft M-16

That being shot will cause you to flip, be slung backwards, or fly backwards... Of course I know this will happen with the 10mm, but nothing else...:tongueout:

I was shocked when I found out Hollywood lied and continues to on a regular basis...

When I was about 6, I thought that most people understood how to use and care for their weapons.

I never would have believed that any real man would go into a gun shop and ask to see one of their "shotties". If I hadn't seen/heard it myself I never would have believed it . . . he probably learned to call a shotgun a "shotty" on the internet.

I believe that the movie was called The Long Riders. Good flick. Don't forget that the Guest and Quaid brothers were in it, too.

I was once told (and believed) that the .45 acp is so powerful, that if you hit somebody in the thumb, it would knock them down.

I now know that is not true.

You have to hit someone in the HAND to knock them down with the .45 acp!!!
