The first time I saw it, I figured oh some kid forgot to take the sticker off his new hat. I keep seeing people walking around with tags/stickers still on their baseball caps... it looks ridiculous.

Is there any reason people do this?

Maybe I'm just too old and cranky to get it.

Ghetto fashion is somewhat of a hard idea to grasp. From saggy pants, to untied boots... One could ask "Why?", but I don't think there is a difinitive answer.

This used to be in fashion back in the early 90's (At least in SoCal it was). Interesting, I did not know it was making a comeback.

So they can return them after wearing them once. Don't want to get caught wearing the same garmet twice.... gotta stay fresh!!!

The story I got from a certain individual at work, who, let's just say (harrumph) hails from the wrong side of the tracks is that keeping the sticker on shows that the hat is "authentic". I take that to mean "ghetto approved attire." Or something.

Maybe I should start up a black-market hat sticker business, selling stickers to kids who can only afford the off-brand hats.

They leave them on as a status symbol. If the hat looks perfect, with the original tag its "new" . Also showcases the brand of the hat which signifies the wearers wealth. I know some bangers that will only wear a hat once. Because after that its used amd not good enough for them.

It's an alternative for the people that don't want to wear their "I'm stupid" sign around their neck.

I bought a hat in a large mall, not long ago. I walked out of the store, pulled the stickers off and dropped them in the trash and started to curl the bill (which is a sin in itself) to my liking.

When I got a few feet away from the trash, some kid walked over and took the sticker out.

The stickers on it show that you just shop-lifted it from the store.

ETA: This was not meant as a joke

Let's see, pants on the ground, shoes untied, shirt on inside out, hat sideways, cocked to the side, a size too big with the tag still on it. I'm pretty sure the fashion is to look like you don't know how to dress yourself. I think maybe the next thing will be to put jackets on upside down.

Its just custom and style now. Personally I think its stupid.

When I buy a basebal cap, we always wanted it broken in. I will buy a cap, take off all the tags, and bend that bill a few times and punch my fist inside the cap to make it fit just right. My Baseball caps get dirty, because I wear them either to the sport event of choice, or when I'm outside doing something active like cutting the grass, fishing or hiking in the woods. Caps are like jeans, they are better broken in.

Every time a teenage relative sees me do this, they cry. With the exception of the price tag , they leave the stickers on the cap, and the bill is flat as a board, and ultra clean. You can almost restock their old caps on the store shelf and sell them for new. Its a fashion statement, not a cap for a sports team.

Its funny when I was a kid we would pick on kids who looked like that, or just assumed they were mental.
