What is the closest thing to a Kahr MK9?

I'm thinking of trading in my Kahr MK9 for something else just like it. Don't get me wrong, I love the gun. Its just that I recently had a cracked slide (I've heard about the MK9 cracking quite a bit) and it is now in for service. My concern is that I will get the gun back and the slide will crack again and it will be out of warranty. Kahr has only a 5 year warranty and it will be up this July for this gun. So what is the closest thing to an MK9? Here are the things I like about it:

    • Small size (especially "thin-ness")
    • Metal frame (really helps with "shootability")
    • 9 mm
    • accurate

If you can find one, A S&W CS9 is very close or a 3913. They are a little bigger but not much! Great guns too!

  3. Colt Pocket Nine's are the closest match, but not made anymore. Fantastic guns but you'll have to buy used.

Yeah you should look for a good deal on a newer MK9, or try the MK40. From what I've read the slide cracking seems to be more prone on the 9mm models.

I have an MK40 and it's awesome in every way. It's a Dec 2003 MK, and it's fit and finish is still great.

I have seen some really good local deals on MK's near me but for now I'm broke.

If you like your MK9, why not get another one. Maybe it won't have any slide crack issues?

    CS9 is quite a bit larger than a Mk9.
CS9 is more Glock 26 sized.

You could look at the EMP's:

Granted, it's a totally different trigger system... it's a 1911 after all. If you really need that DAO trigger pull, you could also look at the little Para 9mm's:

What about a Sig P250 subcompact or a Beretta PX4 Storm subcompact or a Walther PPS? Does anyone have experience with these? Not sure if they have a steel or plastic frame though.

These are all significantly bigger than the MK.

I wouldn't worry about the cracking.

First it doesn't hurt anything. Second mine has at least 3,000 rounds without another crack after Kahr replaced the old cracked slide under warrenty. If it did crack now, I'd just keep using it and not loose any sleep over it. It's a good pistol.

Looks like the Colt Pocket Nine would be the closest. In some of my research (thanks for the tip Baron-Von-Glock), apparently Kahr sued them for patent infringement in using the offset feed ramp. Colt stopped producing the pistol rather than fight it. Looks like there is nothing else close to the MK9 - except maybe the Rohrbaugh 9 - but who wants to pay $1,200?

  15. The Colt Pocket Nine's can be found from time to time for about $750. I really, really love mine. Might be worth keeping an eye open for. Yes, you are correct about the patent issues, too. Baron
