I was looking at their site the other day and saw this nonsense.

    http://nighthawktactical.com/FLX-Upgrade.html

Now, I don't mind 2011s, which are modular, double stack 1911 style pistols. However, I HATE double stack pistols that are trying to be passed off as true 1911s. Just looking at them makes me think "Para".

For Nighthawk to do this nonsense on their existing models is really poor, in my opinion. They don't even call them a different name. Its the same gun with the "FLX Upgrade". How ridiculously gimmicky does that sound?

I'm sure they will sell well, but not to people like me.

Nighthawk builds a great semi custom gun, but this double stack option on their existing proven models turns my stomach. Its available on the Talon, Predator, and Dominator, which are more or less all the same pistol.

I'm glad it didn't do this to my favorite Nighthawk, the Enforcer.

Sorry Nighthawk, but I think this idea is in bad taste. At least come out with new models without contaminating your previously beautiful line of 1911s.

    Thoughts?

I like the guns but I agree that it should have been a new design with new names.

They are in league with STI (clearly) on this, and nothing made it Texas is all bad. :) I would think if I were in the market for a double stack I might go this route as I would guess it would be more reliable than a "standard" double stack 1911. Not in the market for one either so I guess I will not find out for sure :)

Double stack 1911`s are for the IPSC gamers and have no other real purpose in life other than that IMO. :whistling:

The 9mm version will compete with the new Wilson.

    I wouldn't mind one in 9mm, personally.

It is not going to compete with the Spec Ops 9 as an all steel gun...

If you're going to spend that kind of coin on a double stack you would be a fool not to go with a proven company in that area such as STI or SVI.

which is an all steel gun? The Spec Ops 9 is a polymer frame as well.

the FLX is a STI lower, which had a polymer grip frame and the dust cover back is steel.

I'm not a fan at all of double stack 1911s. Can't imagine many people would buy one of these.

On a side note, only 12 more weeks until my Enforcer is done!

"The new FLX upgrade allows you to have all of the features of the aforementioned models, but in a high-capacity version. The frame itself is steel. Only the grip is made from a polymer material. This lightens the frame enough to help offset the additional weight of carrying the extra rounds."

I am assuming the weight is still that of a full sized single stack mag pistol. If that is the case, it is going to be heavier than the SO9 by a decent amount.

Actually, until they are tuned by a place like Brazos Gun Works or Dawson Precision, those doublestack STIs often have a lot of problems. When you buy one from one of these two vendors, you should pay for their upgrade package for them to fluff and buff the gun. Sad that this needs to be done.
