I am, like many of you, a shooter on a budget. Im looking for a defensive pistol but want it to also be fun to take to the range and not horribly expensive either. I have narrowed it down to to opposite choices. Glock 19 or Taurus PT145. I like cheap 9mm ammo and realiability. But the 45 has the stopping power and is cheaper for the unit.

Should I just save up a couple hundred extra and get the glock or go with the pocket 45?

    Whats the word?

Glock vs. Taurus should not even be a consideration. Glock all the way.

If you want a small .45 look at a G36.

Save even more and buy the CZ Tactical Sport, 19+1 9mm.. or split the difference and get a longslide Glock..9mm makes more sense with long barrels.

Friends don't let friends buy Taurus.

The only firearm I ever regretted buying.

Taurus is no where near the same league as Glock. Also, I bought into the .45 hype, which got old quick paying $20/box for ammo. Now I'm a big fan of 9mm, pay $9.50/box at walmart, and loaded with some Federal 115gr +p+, I would NOT want to be on the receiving end of that.

Check the Firearm listings section and you can get some great deals on used Glocks, most of them aren't even broken in yet.

Find yourself a used police trade-in Glock. A used Glock is better than any Taurus.

    Hi,

Got to recommend the Glock 19. It is an awesome carry AND range gun. Mine rides in a Comp-Tac CTAC on a wilderness belt.

    Good luck,

    Alan

What ever you do, don't buy a Taurus 1911. There are too many choices that are better...like, any choice is better.

That's like asking what car to drive. Which gun do you shoot well? What fits your hand? How much recoil is comfortable?
Go to a range and rent some handguns.

IMO, a Glock or an M&P are the only pistols in that price range that are worth serious consideration.

Glock 19, excellent range gun and small enough to carry easily.

Glock vs Taurus? :wow: No comparison. Glock all the way, and not to start a caliber war but modern 9mm defensive ammo is nearly effective as .45 acp.
