Get a Wilderness @ www.thewilderness.com

Make sure you get the original instructors belt with the internal stiffener. I prefer 1 3/4" but I also have a 1 1/2" for a couple of hosters.

i have a wilderness 5 stitch that works decently but honestly, im not that impressed. i also use an aker b21 which is a far better belt in my opinion. i dont even really notice my gun on my hip when using the b21.

I have one by crossbreed. Don't know if it is good or bad but it works for me. After about 9 months or so it looks like new and holds my pants up so I guess that is good enough since I don't want to run around looking like I just stepped out of the hood.

I use a wilderness belt as well. very nice. I have a 5.11 that I use on my Brokos Belt (They are both Black) Its not as stiff, but is better at threading it through holster and mag pouches for different pistols. The Brokos belt gives you the support and the stiffness.

Should I get a "gun belt"
If you are going to carry a gun on your belt, Yes.

will a sterdy belt I'd find in a clothing store work just as good?
No, it/they will not.

Any suggestions on what to buy?
The two least expensive (up front) belts I recommend are:
Aker B21
Wilderness Instructor's Belt (CSM model)
Either one of these can generally be on you doorstep for $50 or less.

A more expensive belt up front (but very inexpensive in the long run) is the reinforced horsehide belt from the beltman.

Clothing store belts are junk in comparison. Thick, tough, built like a tank belts from a western store or workwear store are junk in comparison. I've owned 'em, still have some of 'em laying around in the closet. After having used a belt properly made for supporting a gun, I can't stand them...I don't like to wear them even if I'm not carrying a gun...they are junk.

These are excellent choices. I have a Wilderness 1.5" Frequent Flyer 5-stitch and a couple of Beltman bullhide belts (1.25" and 1.5"). The Wilderness FF belt works well, but I prefer the 1.5" Beltman. If I were to get another Wilderness belt I'd probably get the CSM model. I haven't tried the Aker but at some point I probably will just to see how it works out for me.

Whatever gun belt you get, make sure you follow the manufacturer's sizing instructions.

There is a difference. I just recently got a Beltman 1.5" horsehide-- it replaced a very sturdy Carhart belt that I had been using. Night and day difference. If you will ever carry a gun, a purpose designed belt, i.e. gun belt, is the way to go. You won't regret it.

I had a 5-stitch that didn't do it for me either. The CSM makes a poor gun belt into an excellent gun belt.

What do you guys do when you wear slacks/dress nice and such? Do you still wear a wilderness belt or do you wear a nice leather gun belt as well?
I wear leather all the time... My Wilderness gets the call when camping, fishing, etc..

i've been using a plain black leather belt i bought from old navy back during college.
it's over 15 years old and it works. it's scuffed up where the holster and badge clip on, but it's still thick enough. it is a little worn now, guess i better head back up to old navy. wonder if i can still get a belt for less than 10 bucks.

Been there, done that (as I'm guessing most people who carry a gun have...), that's how I know this is ridiculous. If you carry every day, there's no way a $10 belt as held up 15yrs.

If $10 belts really worked as well as some say, 1.. there would never be threads about quality belts, and 2. Companies that thrive on making just belts (like Beltman) would fail.

So with either the wilderness belts or the beltman belts, do you have to order your current waist size or do you have to add 2 inches for the gun? I'm a 34 waist normally so do I need to buy a 34 or a 36 inch?
