Question: Do you think a G19 is enough for protection in Bear Country? Also, what Glock would you bring for youself?

its better than a stick. the noise of you shooting will scare it but i doubt it will kill. i would want a g20 g29 g30 in that order. but if i was really serious i would take a 44 mag.

9mm in bear country is a great choice. Why carry anything else. Some would say 10mm or shotgun with slugs. Nah you don't need anything like that in fact just carry a LCP or something else in 380 that is all you should need to stop a charging bear. :deadhorse::brickwall:

G19-not unless your bears are the toothless midget pygmy soft chin variety
The only Glock I would(if that's all I could pick) carry in bear country is a G20 with some SERIOUS hand loads or equal factory stuff

Having spent 11 years as a bush pilot in Alaska, living in the remotest of camps on a regular basis, quite frankly I think the correct answer is, "the biggest, baddest, most powerful handgun in the world is 'iffy' against a large bear - so you decide."

LOL Last hunting season I went into the woods with a g19 on the hip and it really got me thinking that I was under gunned!! The next day my uncle was backed into the corner by a black bear!!! So after that trip I went to local gun shop and bought a Ruger Alaskan chambered in .480 ruger!! Now I feel comfortable

Whatever you use, be sure to remove the front sight. That way it won't hurt so much when the bear puts that gun where the sun doesn't shine.

I've had the same concern, and obviously a shotgun with 00 buckshot or a slug would probably be best, but you can't holster a shotgun easily . If it has to be a Glock, from what I have read a 40, 10mm, or 357 Sig are good options.
My personal opinion is a 357 Sig round may be the best for black bear compared to the other calibers. Load a Glock 31 or 32 with a mixture of jacketed hollow points (internal damage) and full metal jacket (penetration of bone, muscle). Most likely you will need to fire more than one round.
