This is a Spikes upper, BA Premium 12.5" 6.5 grendel barrel, Nitrided Brownells 6.5g "type II" with .136" bolt face depth. Maybe 200 rounds total. I did fire 80 rounds of steel cased Wolf on the last trip and also got a stuck round, but it came out pretty easy with a cleaning rod. (I've had to pry rounds out with screwdrivers and plyers before, there's no way that caused THIS, though "this" could be causing something bad?)

I honestly can't recall if I ever closely inspected the barrel before assembling, I mean machining from the factory is what keeps popping into my mind as possible cause. I'm wondering how under normal circumstances this damage could even happen. Anyways.. anyone seen any marks like this before? Thoughts? Second pic is taken from the ejection port.. Looks like Saw cuts that were not cleaned up enough during manufacture of the barrel itself. Poor QC, I would think.
While I doubt it will cause a problem in use, other then fill up with carbon residue, I think I would send the upper back to spikes for them to do something about it.

To be clear, the upper receiver is spikes, the Barrel is Ballistic Advantage. I keep thinking that and it actually shot really well (was getting under 1" groups at 50yards with wolf), just over 1moa with some of my handloads at 100yards. No failures. It just looks like a robot squirrel got after it like it was a nut

If that were mine I'd be on the phone with BA, I see a replacement in your future.

Possibly dinged from taking the barrel in and out of the bins for heat treat. They usually stand them up in a stainless steel wire crates. The BE is put on and the barrel headspaced after heat treat obviously. I highly doubt the bolt face comes close to contacting that area. Don't know what else would cause the marks.gouges radially around the barrel like that. Saw cuts will be running one direction.

Hmm, doesn't seem like it should impact performance but it does look weird. I'd send a picture over to BA and see what they have to say about it. If you don't mind let us know what they say if you do reach out, I'd be interested to know what caused that.

Read elsewhere that BA has requested the barrel back, there is going to be a new one in his future.

Yep, if they ask for it back, then they know it's wrong. If they won't work with you, spin a chamber brush in it w/ plenty of lube, and call it good. It won't really affect anything other then it looks crappy.
Good luck and keep us posted.
