Does anyone know what kind this is? It was about the size of a 50 cent piece, and the back part was squished during extermination. It was much more of a pronounced oval shape. The darker head/oval butt/overall size has me a little freaked out about one in particular but I'm just not sure.

This is in central-eastern FL BTW.

It is not a pile of ash, so you did not kill it properly.

That being said, I have no clue what it is.

That, my friend, is a Black Widow. It's just disguised as something else, which means it's a SMART Black Widow.

Kill it with fire or nuke it from orbit...it's the only way to be sure!

Back in High School, my Biology book said that there are so many that you are never more than 10' away from a spider.

Lol. My concern wasn't black widow - my concern was brown recluse. Google image search "brown recluse bite" with safe search off for why they creep me out.

I don't mind most spiders... Only the really dangerous ones. Most eat mosquitoes and ants so I appreciate them.

Well........good thing you killed it, even though the lower body is squashed that is either a female brown recluse *which if bitten you will feel like your bones are breaking all at once, and its venom eats flesh :-D*

OR a simple Male southern crevice spider :-D

My moneys on the recluse though.

When I was in the Army at Ft. Hood, we had a guy that got bitten by a BR just above his ankle, where his BDUs were bloused at the top of his boot. He didn't even know he had been bitten and was one of those nasty sorts of guys who didn't change his socks or even take his boots off every day when in the field.

Two days went by and he went on sick-call complaining that his foot kept falling asleep. When the medic removed the boot, the guy's ankle and foot looked like something out of a Stephen King novel. He lost A LOT of flesh off of his ankle and nearly lost the foot itself. Also had blood poisoning issues.

Of all spiders out there, the Brown Recluse scares me the most because the initial bite can often go unnoticed.

Really nasty stuff. we had a guy get bit that i had to transport. Was bitten in the face :/.

For me it would be worse, im highly allergic. A recluse bite would kill me in about 25 minutes if i didnt have any anti venom or an epi pen lying around.

That's scary as hell, especially since you might not even notice the initial bite when it happens!

If i can get it into my system within 3 minutes of difficult breathing. Ill be all set. However if i cant....well i wont be posting anymore haha

i'm only seeing 5 legs so it can't be a spider. must be a chupacabra.

    p.s., you're probably already dead.

Overall they are the nastiest spiders in the US. Most people think the black widow is. However 80% of black widow bites dont result in death, just makes you a bit ill. A brown recluse can cause 10x more damage in one bite than a widow can.

Only one that tops it is the good old daddy longlegs. Its venom is so toxic that if you were ever in some odd situation that caused you to miraculously be bitten by one.........you would drop dead. However their legs are too long, and their pincers are not strong enough to penetrate flesh :-D THANKFULLY haha

I also thought daddy long legs had really small mouths so they can't bite you if they wanted to.

Plus they stink. Just another reason to kill them with fire. Napalm if you can get your hands on some.

Really great method is spray glue :-D super sticky, super fast drying, and it suffocates , immobilizes and kills them fast :-D

And after they've stopped moving for 1-2 minutes, take some soap and a cloth and remove the mess :)
