I didn’t know a lot about cars when I was in high school but I really liked the Chrysler Conquest TSI.

I wanted a Fox body 5.0 mustang. LX, coupe or hatch, or GT, anything but a convertible. Wound up with a LX hatch, but it was the dreaded 2.3 gutless wonder :(

Honestly, when I got my license were the dark times for American performance cars.

I was simple, I just wanted a Jeep Wrangler. Dad said it was too impractical. I was pretty mad. Every time I've been car shopping since then, I still think about a new Wrangler - and always decide it's too impractical.

my dad was into restoring classic cars, and there was this '69 Camero that needed some work that I really wanted. He nixed that idea.

What I ended up with was a '71 F150 that we restored to like new, complete with a rebuilt engine, body work, paint job. That decision is probably why I am alive now and not wrapped around a tree...

The car I had, a 1970 LTD. Didn't need to get into the back seat to fool around and it held a 16 gallon keg iced down with CO2 cartridge in the trunk and the tap run under the back seat.

Nothing. I could not have cared less.
A drivers license and any car meant freedom, which at that point in my life mostly meant girls.

Bruno, my dad's 69 LTD sedan was one of my favorite cars. Had a factory 8 track. Medium blue, beautiful car, no B pillars. Dad totalled it when somebody made a U-turn in front of him. :fist:

When I was 15 I just wanted a car. When I was 16 I just wanted a car that didn’t breakdown all the damn time and was all the same color (and the dash lights and speedometer worked). I had to wait 6 more years till I graduated college lol.

I’ve always lusted after the BMW M3.

I saw one of these with the top down driven by a young guy with a good looking blonde as a passenger. He was beating the hell out of it fishtailing down the road. It had flares in the back and wide aluminum slots. You don't see young people driving these anymore and I could not find a picture of one with flares as they have all been restored. This one is as close as I could find.

Anyway that began my search and I found one needing some work for $3,500 but that was way more than I had to spend in high school.

I was not going to post in this thread until I saw this picture. When I was 16 in 1972 my neighbor had a Mach 1 in this very color. And, Mike was an awesome dude - about ten years older than me, single and living with his mom. Had a new girlfriend seemingly every week. He was always working on some kind of car in the garage, paint and body work, mechanical...you name it. But the Mustang he bought new, it was a daily driver and did not mess with it - kept it stock. It was a 351 4 speed. One winter day he got stuck at the end of our long street in the snow. I was out shoveling and he asked me to help get his car out. We walked back to his car and he instructed me to get behind the wheel and he would push. If the car got unstuck, he said, keep driving all the way to his house. It did and I did. Coincidentally, there is quite a bit of snow in this photo!

Years later I heard Mike passed away from lung cancer. The picture of this car, parked next to a pile of snow, jogged the memory of that day. Naturally, I really wanted a 1972 Mach 1 when I was 16. Never got one (but, I do have a Corvette).
